When brands go from being just a product to raising awareness, that's when they really add valor. Adidas has been committed for years to fight against plastic dumping in seas and oceans and proof of this was the event held in Barcelona this week with the help of Parley for the Oceans. Taking advantage of the week of the oceans, Barcelona has become the epicenter of different actions aimed at raising awareness of the importance of recycling and conservation of our oceans free of plastic. Sports personalities such as NBA player Ricky Rubio and rapper Arkano came to the adidas Run For the Oceans House to join the Run For the Oceans movement, sponsored by adidas and the Parley For the Oceans association.

The NBA player was delighted with his experience collecting plastics on the beaches of Barcelona with a group of students: "We have ridden in boats and kayaks to transfer the plastics collected by a team of divers del mar to the shore, to then sort the plastic into different containers. These kinds of experiences are always very enriching: in the end, it's the kids themselves who teach you how to continue supporting these kinds of causes." Rubio says he is aware of the "weight that sportsmen and women have on young people. Therefore, we have a social duty to support these initiatives in which we believe. This activity was organized by adidas, the Barcelona Ocean Sailing Foundation (FNOB) and the Barcelona Esports Institute, for the city's high schools that are currently taking part in the Barcelona City Council's "Esports de Mar" program.

Oceans, main source of oxygen

Ricky was accompanied by Silvia Raccagni, spokesperson for Parley for the Oceans: "The partnership between adidas and Parley began 5 years ago and has only grown. Not only have we managed to turn plastic into high-performance sports equipment (preventing them from sinking to the bottom of del mar), but we have managed to raise awareness and get millions of people running to save the oceans through the Run for the Oceans movement".

The oceans will survive. They have been there and they always will be. What we have to think about is not just saving the oceans, but us. They are our main source of oxygen creation. Either we act fast or we are going to have a problem. This can't just be a simple problem of pollution in the oceans," he said.

adidas Parley's objective

The goal set by adidas for 2019 is ambitious: to increase the pace of change, which, with the introduction of the 2019 Parley range, will see the company produce 11 million pairs of shoes using recyclable marine plastic waste.

The 2019 campaign will also unite more runners in more places around the world, to run for the oceans to reach its new $15 million goal.

Adidas partley

The press conference, led by rapper Arkano, ended with an impromptu rap by the musician in which he used Rubio and Raccagni's responses to praise his commitment to ocean preservation.

The NBA player took the opportunity to encourage all Barcelona residents to sign up for the Run for the Oceans movement that will take place this Friday at 7 p.m.: "Friday's race is an incredible opportunity to do sport and also contribute directly to a good cause.

Run for the Oceans is the largest gathering of runners united to save the oceans, which will bring together more than 3,000 people to raise funds for Parley for the Oceans ' educational and awareness programs . adidas is preparing an unexpected end to the event to thank the city of Barcelona and all the runners who have joined the cause.
