Protection and comfort are the words that define this Asics Gel Trabuco 12
It was in the 1990s when Asics began to design specific shoes for Trail Running. More than 20 years later comes its latest model, Asics Gel TRABUCO 12, the new version of one of the quintessential trail shoes. The Trabuco already has 26 editions, 14 editions of the Trabuco and 12 of the current Fuji Trabuco. A shoe with a continuing character of its previous model and designed to run on any terrain, thanks to its additional cushioning, with total comfort. Robust at first glance, very soft to the touch when you put it on. The Japanese brand has achieved one of the most versatile shoes on the market.
A model designed for runners of medium weight, and even high, looking for protection and comfort in equal parts. The speed, in this case, is the disadvantage; since we prioritise safety ahead of the pace but we get a softer and more natural feeling in the way we run because the new design, a little narrower, gives the shoe greater support.
It is oriented to long distance, which is why comfort is a priority, but I would define it as a multi-purpose shoe, to run from medium to ultra distances. They're comfortable when you put them on, and the gel capsule inside the midsole, in the rear part of the shoe, is responsible for the softness in our landings. I think that this year they will be a great companion, both in training and in competitions.
What I liked the most
What I liked the most about the new Asics Gel Trabuco 12 is the FLYTE FOAM BLAST, which guarantees more comfort and helps to reduce impact on our joints. The ASICSGRIP outsole provides fantastic grip in the most difficult terrain conditions thanks to its multidirectional star-shaped lugs. An outsole that, as we know, is one of the best options on the market and that will ensure great durability.
The ASICS Gel Trabuco 12 has 35 mm in the heel and 27 mm in the forefoot with a drop of 8 mm, which allows you to adapt to the shoe quickly. Another noteworthy point is its Rock Protection Plate technology, which protects the foot from rocks without interfering with our stride, thanks to the flexibility. The tongue hides a tape in the area of interlaced laces to collect the excess lace length, and thus avoid problems- something that I have already tested in several models, which I think is a great idea.
Points for improvement
One of the downsides I can see to this Trabuco 12 is that its weight, with respect to the previous model, has increased at the expense of better cushioning, which limits our running pace.
In short, these new Asics Gel Trabuco 12 are a safe bet in both dry and wet terrain for any type of training or distance thanks to their great grip. The design of this shoe focuses on protection and comfort, which is aided by the technical mesh made from recycled materials in the upper- that also brings comfort to the forefoot area.
