The PROJECTSPEED family has a new member, and we must welcome the ASICS Magic Speed 2. ASICS does not stop innovating and proposing new options within its range of faster shoes and this second version of the Magic Speed will not be less.
These running shoes for neutral runners bring with them several innovations compared to its predecessor. We are not exaggerating if we tell you that this model has improved its performance in terms of comfort, cushioning and running efficiency. Even so, it will remain a mixed-use shoe for medium to long distances at high paces. The most significant change is its higher profile compared to its predecessor. And a strong resemblance to the Asics Metaspeed Sky.
ASICS Magic Speed 2, main features
ASICS has made some improvements in several areas of the shoe, but they have maintained many other features that could not disappear from this runner.
In the midsole area, in addition to a higher profile, we will find the FlyteFoam Blast+ foam, capable of ensuring great responsiveness without sacrificing lightness. As if that were not enough, this "plus" version comes with more foam than usual, which translates into greater cushioning and comfort. In addition, we already saw in its previous version that combined the innovative Guidesole technology and the carbon fiber plate. From RUNNEA we believe that this model can not be less and everything points to also include both the carbon plate and Guidesole technology.
The upper presents some changes compared to the ASICS Magic Speed. Firstly, the heel of this model is padded, for greater comfort and convenience during the race. Secondly, the mesh upper is more breathable. In any case, the upper is still seamless to improve the fit to the foot.
One of the most striking changes is in the outsole. The rubber in this area will be noticeably reduced, to the point that many areas of what should be an outsole will be a midsole. The rubber will be found only in the impact zones of the foot in each stride, and it is here where we see that these are shoes for runners who do not enter with the heel to their footsteps.

The market for carbon plate running shoes is growing. The use of the carbon plate is becoming more and more universal and is no longer a restricted territory for those runners who run under 4 minutes per kilometer. Brands find a new formula to increase their products catalog, and runners opt for fast running shoes, with new technologies but also taking into account our needs: greater stability, better foot support, more comfort and that extra spice we need when we are going to run faster (even if it is not below 4 m / km). And today we analyze one of these models, which also vaya ahead. We are talking about the Asics Magic Speed 2
Type of runner of the Asics Magic Speed 2
This is an ideal running shoe for fast quality workouts for paces around 4 and 4:15 m/km. That doesn't mean that you can't run faster with them, you will be able to, but for that you have other Asics shoes that are going to be more explosive, like the Asics MetaSpeed Sky or Sky +-. In fact we can consider them as the third fastest shoe in the current Asics ranking. It is a model with which you can also compete in short and medium distances. I would even say marathon, if you are looking for a little more support and support than what an Asics Metaspeed Sky or Asics Metaspeed Sky + will offer you.
In short, a shoe with which you can run fast, very light, around 228 grams in a size 10 usa (44 European), which can be an entry-level model both for being cheaper than the 2 top of the range models (it has an RRP of 180 € but you can find them much cheaper at RUNNEA) and that will perform perfectly in fast workouts.
What we liked most about the Asics Magic Speed 2
We see a lot of changes in this second edition compared to the first one. Let's start with the star of this shoe, its midsole and carbon plate. We find a plate throughout the midsole, which in combination with the FF Blast + foam that we have already seen in models such as the Asics Novablast 3 or the Asics Gel Nimbus 24, give it consistency, a lot of reactivity in a rather firm feel. This firmness turns into explosiveness in the race but both its geometry and its upper, reduce those rough sensations that we perceive in more radical models with carbon plate.
Therefore its comfort and support in the race would be the two main virtues of the Asics Magic Speed 2, in a shoe as we said is very fast. Those sensations are mainly perceived thanks to that upper that has a slightly wider last in the toe area than in the previous version. The upper is made of a kind of reinforced braided yarn that makes it lightweight and breathable.
The part of the toe box hugs the ankle very well, we even find padded areas in the achilles area and some structure that will prevent the heel from moving during the race.
The tongue, however, is very thin, very radical, although it is attached with an elastic fabric to the sides of the shoe with which you will not have problems that will move.
The outsole is very similar to that of the Asics MetaSpeed Sky with the metatarsal area well protected with its traditional AHAR rubber that works so well in terms of grip and durability.
Possible improvements
Being a shoe intended mainly for training, we miss some more protection of the exposed parts of the outsole. Considering that it is a model with a drop of 8 mm and that it encourages midfoot landings, those of you who land on the heel, the area is more exposed.
And on the other hand, a tongue with a little more padding, even if the shoe gains a few grams, will favor even more comfort and convenience during the race.
Conclusions
This is undoubtedly one of the fast running shoes, I would even say mixed, that we have liked the most in this 2022. You can run fast with them, you find some support and control in the race, it is not so spartan in terms of sensations, its design is very racing and its price is within the reasonable in models with carbon plates.
