Merrell Trail Glove 7: For lovers of low profile that want to feel the terrain on their feet.

This is the Merrell Trail Glove 7, a totally minimalist shoe model for those runners who have a very different philosophy to the majority, lovers of low profile that want to feel the terrain on their feet.

Main characteristics

This Merrel model offers a much more realistic option while maintaining the position of the natural foot, but with greater support than its previous model, especially in the inner area with a well marked arch and an oversized midsole.

Although it is a shoe designed for people who are used to running with a 0drop, with a progressive adaptation it is a good option for those who want to get started in minimalism because despite the drop, it provides some cushioning. It also offers protection and comfort throughout the race.

What kind of trail runners are they recommended for?

It is important to note that the Merrel Trail Glove 7 are aimed at a specific group of runners looking for a minimalist experience. They are ideal for those with good running technique, light weight and a high demand on their footwear . While they can be used by runners of different levels, a gradual adaptation is essential for those who have never run in drop or minimalist shoes. This will prevent injury and allow runners to fully enjoy the benefits of this shoe.

For runners with good technique and light weight, the Merrel Trail Glove 7 offers a unique experience by providing a greater connection to the ground and encouraging a more natural stride.

For what paces and distances

The Merrel Trail Glove 7 is an excellent choice for mid-distance training and runners who keep a low to medium pace. They perform optimally on well-trodden and well-maintained terrain.

For those who are starting out with this model, it is advisable to begin with shorter sessions, such as walking or technique exercises. Subsequently, you can run on easy and not very technical trails before venturing into longer distances.

What we liked the most

One of the features I liked most about these Merrel Trail Glove 7 is their Vibram outsole, designed specifically for compact terrain. The traction and grip of this outsole allows runners to move confidently even in challenging conditions. The micro-tabs that completely cover the outsole provide good traction on both dry and wet surfaces, which is essential for those who want to venture into hilly terrain or uneven trails.

The upper is made from recycled materials that not only reduce environmental impact, but also offer optimal breathability to keep feet cool and dry throughout the run.The shoe's collar provides a secure and comfortable fit around the ankle, giving the runner confidence with every step.

In addition, the gusseted tongue is a standout feature that prevents stones or debris from entering during the run, allowing runners to enjoy a distraction-free experience, many even dispensing with the use of socks.

The oversized midsole also contributes to the comfort and stable feel, allowing for a smoother transition during the stride cycle.

Points for improvement

Despite all its positive qualities, there are a few areas that could be improved in the Merrell Trail Glove 7 Among them:

  • Improved breathability in the collar: while the upper made from recycled materials offers excellent breathability overall, I noticed that the collar of the shoe can take longer to dry after getting wet. Improving the drying ability of the collar would prevent possible discomfort caused by moisture on longer running sessions or in wet weather conditions.
  • Width options: Although the Merrell Trail Glove 7 provides a secure fit around the ankle and a stable feel, some runners with wider feet may find it somewhat snug or uncomfortable. Including width options in the design would allow a variety of runners to fully enjoy the benefits of this minimalist shoe without worrying about fit or comfort issues.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Merrel Trail Glove 7 is an exceptional minimalist shoe that offers the opportunity to connect intimately with the terrain while enjoying protection and comfort. Its quality design, use of recycled materials and Vibram outsole traction are highlights. Although it is intended for a specific audience of runners, its progressive fit makes it an interesting option for those looking to get into minimalism. The Merrel Trail Glove 7 is a perfect tool for those who want to experience natural running and don't want to give up comfort on their running adventures.

Merrel Trail Glove 7 Gore-Tex, the perfect shoe to feel every step of the terrain

The first impression we get from these Merrell Trail Glove 7 Gore-Tex is clear. We are facing a completely flat shoe (that's a 0mm drop!), with a minimalist look. However, its range of usefulness is very wide. It allows us to run, hike, camp, and even use in the city.

Trail runner's profile: Merrell Glove 7 Gore-Tex

This type of trail shoe is intended for runners who like to feel contact with the terrain at all times. Its usefulness is greatly expanded, but also limited at the same time. That is to say, for a trail running use, it has a more limited range of distances, due to the little cushioning it offers. We are talking about distances up to 10K maximum.

What I liked most: Merrell Glove 7 Gore-Tex

Apart from highlighting the versatility of this minimalist trail running shoe, I would like to mention how comfortable the foot feels inside its last. It provides perfect support, but does not give the feeling of having a tight foot. The toes have generous space to move and be completely comfortable for hours.

I also liked the adjustable lace closure system and the small detail of a section in the tongue to store the same. The puller at the top of the neoprene collar makes it very easy to put on this shoe.

Opportunities for improvement: Merrell Glove 7 Gore-Tex

However, the elastic neoprene collar that covers our ankles is not as elastic as Merrell mentions. This can be a headache when putting on the shoe, especially for those with a wide physiognomy, and can make it difficult to put on and take off the shoe. Although as a tip, with a slim physiognomy, I recommend loosening the laces completely before you want to put your foot in it. As logical as it may seem, not everyone does it, and it makes putting on and taking off shoes much easier, especially in this type of model.

As an improvement, I would have liked the neoprene collar to protect the ankle, and be more elastic. This would help when putting them on, but it would also improve the waterproofing offered by the GORE-TEX version, as the material would be completely adhered to our ankles.

When it comes to comparing them with a model, there are many similarities with the Altra Lone Peak 8, a perfect minimalist shoe to feel every inch of the track.

Why do I recommend these Merrell Glove 7 Gore-Tex?

Bottom line: If you want a versatile shoe for men and women that you can use in any situation, it is a very useful and recommendable model. Of course, you have to like the feeling of being in contact with nature, and walking flat, and forget about the comfort offered by more cushioned shoes. If you can accept that, I'm sure you will enjoy them and get the most out of them.
