Joma surprises with the inclusion of a new member to its famous and demanded R line of high-end racing shoes. We are talking about the new Joma R1000, or rather the competition shoe for elite marathon runners.

The new and innovative running shoes Joma R1000 land with really high expectations of being one of the great references for marathoners who do not shy away from wearing a very efficient option for running with carbon plate.

What new features does the new Joma R1000 bring with it?

What's new in the new Joma R1000?

At the prototype level, these Joma R1000 have already shown that they perform at a very high level in the mythical distance of 42,195 meters of a marathon. It is not surprising that in the next Seville Marathon 2024, to be held on February 18, 2024, some of the ambassador athletes of the Toledo-based company will wear this Joma model on their feet.

It is a running shoe that has a very similar concept to all the pioneers like the Joma R3000, but in essence it is a model that does present differences:

  • FlyReactive foam in the midsole presents greater density, and this favors that the running sensations are more comfortable and more reactive.
  • Different Endoplate: because the hardness of the carbon plate is less aggressive than that of the R3000, which makes these R1000 a lightweight shoe, but with a very good response for longer distances.
  • Recommended use: if the Joma R3000 is a model focused on running all kinds of distances on asphalt from the shortest to the longest; the Joma R1000 are more focused on being that option to run a marathon with full guarantees and great efficiency.

When will the revamped Joma R1000 be available?

When will the renewed Joma R1000 be available?

During the Joma Press Day in January 2024, it has been announced that the launch of the new Joma R1000 may take place towards the end of February this year.

At RUNNEA we will be very attentive to its launch to offer you all the details of these Joma R1000, the shoe designed for marathon runners from the renowned Spanish brand.

Who's who in Jomas renewed R line of competition shoes?

You already know that Joma's R racing line is a collection of running shoes designed to meet the needs of a variety of runners. These are their featured models, and that are already on everyone's lips during this 2024.

  • Joma R1000: this shoe, which is the latest and most recent addition to Joma's 2024 running catalog. It is intended for elite athletes competing in marathons. Although it shares similarities with R3000, it has a less aggressive carbon plate and a more comfortable midsole, as we have already mentioned.
  • Joma R2000: Known for its versatility, this shoe has gained the attention of many runners in 2023 due to its attractive design, good cushioning, comfort and light weight. It is suitable for a wide range of training and race paces.
  • Joma R3000: Joma's latest update for demanding runners looking for a carbon plate shoe for paces under 4:30 minutes per kilometer. It offers a balance between comfort and speed, while being lighter and suitable for racing at various distances.
  • Joma R5000: This quality racing and training shoe is ideal for both recreational runners and elite athletes. It stands out as the most minimalist shoe with carbon plate in the Joma line.

Joma R1000: Carbon plate for everybody

With the Joma R1000, the Spanish brand presents an accessible option for those who want to make the leap to carbon plate shoes, but without facing the stiffness and demands that usually characterize this type of model. The R1000 is a shoe that stands out for its versatility and stability, ideal for runners looking for a daily training shoe that can also respond in quality workouts and, why not, in competitive events.

Who is the Joma R1000 for?

The Joma R1000 is the perfect shoe for runners with a neutral stride, with or without insoles, and weighing up to 90 kg, who are looking for a first experience with a carbon plate without compromising on comfort. This shoe moves with ease in paces between 4:00/km and 4:45/km, and is ideal for those looking for a versatile model that can be used both in long runs and in series, fartleks and quality sessions at moderate paces.

It is a particularly attractive option for runners who want to explore the benefit of the carbon plate without the demands of a more aggressive model. The Joma R1000 combines this technology with stability and cushioning that make it an excellent choice for training of all kinds and even for those preparing for competitive exams, where you need a shoe that responds well in different types of tests and distances.

The carbon plate: Reactivity without aggressiveness

What makes the Joma R1000 unique is its braided carbon plate, designed with a medium-high stiffness, but without being extreme. This allows the runner to feel a good energy return without the aggressiveness typical of more advanced carbon plates. This detail makes the R1000 ideal for those looking to improve their performance without pushing their muscles to the limit, especially the calf and soleus muscles, areas that tend to suffer more in racing shoes with a stiff plate.

Joma r1000 review

The R1000's plate acts similar to a "soft spring", providing a noticeable boost in each stride without demanding perfect running technique. This model makes it possible to enjoy the reactivity of carbon at varied paces, without punishing the runner over long distances or during intense training sessions.

Chassis and cushioning: Construction that invites you to train.

With a 40 mm profile in the heel and 33 mm in the forefoot, the Joma R1000 offers generous cushioning complemented by a 7 mm drop. This makes it comfortable and stable, ideal for runners looking for a shoe that performs well on long runs or workouts where the foot needs stability. The midsole, constructed with two layers of Fly Reactive, provides a soft heel feel and a firmer forefoot, allowing for a progressive cushioning experience that adapts to different stride types.

Joma r1000 review

Fly Reactive material is a cushioning compound that, while it feels soft at rest, provides a balanced response when running, especially for runners who land slightly on their heel or midfoot. This makes the R1000 an excellent choice for those who need a shoe that not only cushions impact, but also eases foot strike transition and provides a touch of responsiveness.

An outsole built to last

The outsole of the Joma R1000 stands out for its durability, thanks to the Durability rubber with 60 Ha hardness and a thickness of 3 mm, which promises a useful life of up to 750 km. This model is perfect for training on asphalt and park roads in good condition. Although on very smooth and wet surfaces it may have some limitations in terms of traction, in dry conditions and standard grip it behaves optimally, offering a good balance between stability and adherence.

Joma r1000 review

In addition, the outsole features a rocker design that facilitates toe-off, allowing a smooth transition from the heel to the forefoot. This design is ideal for those who are looking for a smooth and uninterrupted running experience, and who are not used to the aggressiveness of other plate models.

Upper and fit: Ventilation and comfort with every stride.

The upper of the Joma R1000 is made of a single-layer jacquard mesh, which provides lightness, breathability and good adaptability to the foot. This upper has been designed to offer reinforcements in the areas of greatest stress, which reduces the risk of tearing and ensures greater durability. In addition, the perforated tongue attached to the sides contributes to ventilation, keeping the foot cool during prolonged workouts.

Joma r1000 review

The heel fit includes a medium stiffness heel counter, which provides support without sacrificing comfort. However, it is important to mention that the R1000 does not have an auxiliary hole in the lacing system, which could be a drawback for runners who prefer a firmer lockdown in this area. This detail could be improved, as a more customized fit in the heel would make the shoe even more versatile and adaptable to different foot types.

Cushioning and dynamics: Versatile performance

On the run, the Joma R1000 proves to be a comfortable and cushioned shoe, perfect for those looking for stability and responsiveness in pace-controlled workouts or even in quality sessions. Its rocker design and moderately stiff carbon plate provide a good boost without requiring a too refined running technique. It is a shoe that allows you to explore the potential of carbon without the demands of more technical models, making it an excellent choice for those looking for a first experience in this type of shoe.

What I liked most about the Joma R1000

  • Versatility: It adapts well to different types of training, from running to fartleks and series.
  • Stability: Ideal for runners looking for a stable and comfortable model over long distances.
  • Balanced cushioning: Its midsole offers a blend of softness and responsiveness that works over a wide range of paces.

Potential areas for improvement

  • Wet grip: The R1000's traction works well in dry conditions, but falls short on wet surfaces, such as sidewalks or bike paths, where the shoe can slip. A grippier rubber would be ideal to improve its performance in rainy areas.
  • Heel fit: It lacks an extra hole in the lacing system that would help limit heel lock, especially if you have a narrow heel.
Joma R1000, the perfect entry into the world of carbon plates.

The Joma R1000 is a shoe that shines for its versatility and balance. It is ideal for runners looking for a first experience with a carbon plate, without the hardness and demands of more aggressive competition models. Its stable design and progressive cushioning make it an excellent choice for daily training, with the advantage of being able to respond in quality sessions and medium distances.

If you are looking for a shoe that allows you to try the advantages of carbon technology, but without compromising comfort and stability, the Joma R1000 is a safe bet. Whether it's for running, tempo changes, or even opposition sessions, this shoe offers solid performance without fuss, making it an ideal choice for the recreational runner who values value for money and versatility.

Joma R1000, entry to carbon plate shoes

I do not quite know where to fit these JOMA R1000 that the brand from Toledo has come up with. If we talk about sports doping we always think that it is to achieve improvements in performance and therefore in the result, well, I think this is what the Spanish brand have done with these JOMA R1000, based on the successful R2000, product developers of the Spanish brand have doped it to become a "fast"shoe by adding a carbon plate. But it is not a "super". It's more of an all-around shoe, for training and racing, for a wide range of runner profiles.

After testing these running shoes I think I would categorize it as a training and racing shoe. Probably for the vast majority of runners these JOMA R1000 already serve us as a super running shoe despite the fact that JOMA has the R3000 in the segment of running shoes for fast running.

In the following lines we go into a little more detail.

What kind of runners are the new JOMA R1000? for?

What kind of runners are the new JOMA R1000 for?

An outstanding option for those runners who are looking for a fast shoe at a moderate price and don't want to buy another shoe for those quality workouts.

These JOMA R1000 I would say are for running at paces around 3:45 and 4:30 min/km. for those tempo workouts or series and that also respond in competition.

On the other hand, it has a generous rubber outsole, which makes it gain a few grams and not be so light, but we ensure greater durability if we want to train with them.

For what distances do we recommend the JOMA R1000?

According to JOMA, these R1000 shoes are for medium and long distances due to their Fly Reactive cushioning, which is polyurethane with air. This compound is accompanied by a reactive but flexible carbon plate and not as stiff as a super running shoe, let's say it's a slightly friendlier model.

I have been able to check first hand what they say from the Spanish brand and I quite agree with what they say.

What we liked most about the JOMA R1000

What we liked most about the JOMA R1000

In this section I will not lie, as a runner that looks after my economy ... what I like most about these JOMA R1000 is its price that on the official website. I think they are 154.99 € but if you look on the website of RUNNEA I'm sure you will find some option with very interesting discounts, which you should take advantage of.

And nowadays buying an "economical" carbon shoe seems like the title of a movie... "Mission Impossible". On this occasion JOMA seems to have realized this and have put a little remedy on that.

In my opinion, one of the strong points of these JOMA R1000 shoes is their sole with a generous rubber that practically covers the entire sole, increasing the lifespan of a fast shoe.

Opportunities for improvement in the JOMA R1000

Opportunities for improvement in the JOMA R1000

The tongue and laces which are very basic are 2 points of improvement for future renovations of these JOMA R1000.

With which models can we compare the JOMA R1000?

With which models can we compare the JOMA R1000?

The brand from Toledo enters in a new segment for them and I really don't know if they have much competition with this type of shoe, normally we usually choose a mixed shoe that most times doesn't incorporate a carbon fiber plate or in its defect it can incorporate a Pebax plate or, on the contrary, a super running shoe to compete and this second one is not the segment of the JOMA R1000.

However, I leave you some models that I think can be direct competition:

Why choose the JOMA R1000

Why choose the JOMA R1000?

These JOMA R1000 shoes are an option to take into account, if our final decision leads us to choose carbon plate, but having a single shoe for quality training and competitions of medium and long distance. Something to really take into account is its moderate price for a shoe that incorporates carbon plate.
