Nike launches its new ReactX technology to evolve its midsole in running shoes. A revolutionary technology that balances the needs of sports performance, but also those of the planet. This innovation has been premiered in the Nike React Infinity Run 4 shoes, let's get to know some of the features that make it a differential foam in the market.

Nike ReactX Foam: Higher energy return, lower carbon footprint

Nike ReactX foam has been researched, developed and tested for five years to find a key middle ground between performance and environmental impact. Through an injection molding process, rather than the traditional compression molding system, the new foam offers a higher energy return without creating a larger carbon footprint.

Materials account for about 70% of Nikes total carbon footprint. Therefore, advances in more sustainable materials will influence the entire sportswear industry to create more environmentally responsible products.

Nike Infinity Run 4: Innovation and sustainability

Nike Running introduces its latest innovation to deliver high-level performance while reducing environmental impact: Nike ReactX foam, which debuts in the new Nike InfinityRN 4.

Compared to Nike React foam, ReactX is designed to reduce its carbon footprint on a pair of midsoles by at least 43% due to energy reduction in the manufacturing process, and increase energy return by 13%.

The resulting balance between performance and environmental impact in ReactX foam is a feat of sports performance engineering.

Manufacturing process: Injection molding vs. compression molding

The industry has two traditional methods for manufacturing foam, which can be summarized as injection molding or compression molding. The overall injection process is simpler and therefore carries a lower carbon footprint, but it also tends to be less energy efficient and have a lower performance benefit.

On the other hand, compression molding produces more responsive foams with higher energy efficiency, but also generates more waste and uses more energy to manufacture.

ReactX foam has been researched, developed and tested over five years to create a formulation that hits the sweet spot between performance and environmental impact. By subjecting the material to an injection molding process, rather than compression molding, the new foam offers greater energy efficiency without generating a larger carbon footprint.

Nike Infinity Run 4: Design and features

The new running shoe combines ReactX foam with an all-new Nike Flyknit upper that allows for maximum airflow, breathability, flexibility and containment, with a soft, supportive foam collar. The lightweight fabric uses an average of 60 less waste than traditional shoe upper construction. The updated upper also features increased toe volume, a midfoot support system and a water-resistant lining.

The Nike InfinityRN 4 are on sale now at Nike but you can also compare prices at RUNNEA. Don't miss your chance to experience the revolution in running shoes with the new Nike ReactX.
