Adidas has decided to change course, to take a different camino to what it has been doing in recent years. It is going to focus on the popular runner. And this strategy is starting to materialize with its new Supernova line, a series of shoes designed to offer a running experience focused on comfort. For the past few years the battle had been focused on trying to outdo competitors like Nike in the quest to create the fastest shoes on the market. Adidas understands that they have succeeded with the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 and so they are now redefining their approach. To provide a solution for runners looking for a shoe that matches their lifestyle and individual needs. The new Supernova line, which includes the Rise, Stride and Solution models, is presented as an innovative proposal that promises comfort, a softer feel than we are used to and good foot support.

The Adidas concept of innovation

During our visit to Herzo ( Adidas ' world headquarters in Germany) we could already see how innovation is in the company's DNA. But it is true that Nike beat them to the punch with the carbon plate. That meant an important change of mentality for the company with the 3 stripes. To regain the podium of being a brand considered one of the fastest, if not the fastest in the running shoes market. And once they understand that they have already achieved it, they turn to the idea of winning back the popular runner. The runner for whom running means going out to clear the mind, to do sport for health or to lose weight. This runner is looking for 3 things: comfort, protection and price.

The new Adidas running strategy is based on the idea that running is more than a physical activity; it is an integral experience that involves emotional and psychological aspects. Comfort, therefore, transcends the simple absence of discomfort, becoming a crucial element for a satisfactory sports practice. The Supernova line is the result of this new approach: a combination of advanced technology, design for the everyday runner and special attention to the individual needs of each athlete. With it, Adidas seeks to provide an answer to the demands of runners and redefine what "comfort" means in the world of running.

Why is adidas now launching into the popular runner's market?

A global research conducted by adidas in 2023, 2,674 runners in 11 cities were asked, revealed a key fact in the brand's change of trend: an uncomfortable shoe is the main obstacle to enjoying a run, pointed out by 47% of respondents. Other factors such as excessive heat (45%) or cold (43%), lack of motivation (38%) and uneven or slippery surfaces (37%) were also highlighted. Surprisingly, 23% of popular runners decide not to go running because of these discomforts, with shoes being the most important factor.

Furthermore, discomfort not only deters people from going out for a run in the first place, but also significantly affects their performance. Nearly 37% of athletes shorten their route, 29% say it influences their mood, and 33% opt to change their usual running route. This data underscores the importance of comfortable footwear, not only to encourage running, but to improve the overall running experience.

The survey also asks what an ideal day for a run would be like: a sunny morning, temperature around 19.8 degrees and a light breeze. Interestingly, only in Seoul do runners prefer to run at night.

Choosing a running shoe is no easy task. It involves considering the type of footprint, the frequency of training, the conditions of the terrain, the weight of the athlete, his or her running technique. At RUNNEA we want to help you with your choice so that you don't fail, and we also help you find the best price for your size. If you want, we can help you.
