Since its foray into the world of running shoes, the American company Brooks has maintained its efforts to offer athletes quality and performance-enhancing footwear. With this motto in mind, each delivery of an improved version of its shoes is carefully studied to be optimized to the maximum according to the demands of runners.

With the Brooks PureGrit 5, we find ourselves in front of the fifth installment of this line of trail running shoes, which although they have kept many of the details of its predecessor, they also include significant improvements that athletes will appreciate.

Brooks

Type of runner

Trail runners of medium or light build with good running technique who want them for terrain that is not too technical, with gravel, trails, loose stones... For fast running.

Let's take a look at some of the attributes of this fifth version of the PureGrit.

What has been preserved

Brooks has decided to keep many of the features that have worked perfectly in their previous shoes, such is the case of the BioMoGo DNA cushioning material that makes up the midsole and has the ability to adapt to the pressure that the runner exerts on the shoe in each step.

As we know, the pressure exerted on the shoe is different depending on the weight, speed and technique of each runner. The BioMoGo DNA cushions the stride with great efficiency and then exerts an energy return in the same proportion to the pressure exerted during the stride, allowing for a smoother stride throughout the run.

The EVA foam has also been retained in the midsole to offer even more cushioning, mainly in the arch area, which we can appreciate noticeably higher but without being uncomfortable for those with a flatter foot. With a 4 mm drop the Brooks PureGrit 5 is a very good option for fast races in the mountains or on trails. Of course, with such a low drop it is important that the runner has a good running technique to avoid injuries.

What has changed

The most notable change that we can appreciate in these trail running shoes is their design, this time Brooks has opted for a more conservative style but one that provides the athlete with better support and stability during fast runs.

In the previous version we could see a shoe with many decorative elements in the upper, although it was said that these hexagons worked as a protection system, as there was no connection between them offered a worse fit to the foot.

On the other hand, in these shoes some of these hexagons have been eliminated, but they have been made longer and have been interconnected to provide a better fit to the foot. The mesh upper has a barrier that prevents dust or loose material from entering the shoe. The heel part also has a more solid structure to protect this area during the race.

The outsole is another element that has been improved in this installment of Brooks trail running shoes. The irregularly sized lugs seen in the previous shoe have now been replaced by homogeneously sized ones that promise better traction even on uneven terrain, their spacing also prevents stones or other elements from getting stuck in the sole of the shoe.

With these modifications, the Brooks PureGrit 5 will adapt better to all types of terrain without losing its level of cushioning and stability.
