October belongs to the last month of the year of the athletic season. And contradictorily, it is the month in which many of us athletes take up the reins of training again. Pre-season corresponds to the name of the implementation of our goals. In the following I will give you the meaning of this word through personal actions with which I define this phase.

The preseason for me is equivalent to the pillars of a house. In any work we need to have a good foundation to build firmly. So in order to be able to carry out the most efficient season, let's start building!

Pre-season running

The athletic foundation

The first days of training must be dominated by the expression "don't overdo it". I am preparing for a long distance race, like many of you, so we are used to doing miles and anything less than 30 minutes may be considered too little. Let's be patient. We must increase the minutes in progression. In addition to this basic advice, I encourage you to use terrain changes. Each of them will provide us with particular and interesting benefits and also, being able to enjoy a variety of landscapes will enrich us emotionally. I have the privilege of living in the Mediterranean and this allows me to combine mountain running with asphalt or grass, and even move to stride along the del mar. So if you are one of those who have this advantage, take advantage of it.

In addition to the minutes and the terrain, a key factor that I defend from the beginning to the end of the season is strength.

Pre-season running

Compaction exercises, proprioception, fitball, weights, etc. take center stage in the preseason phase. The objective of gaining muscle strength leads to an improvement in performance and also helps to avoid possible sports injuries. Think that when we move if instead of dragging our body weight we have muscles that transmit strength to us for this displacement, both the sensations when running and the result will be more successful. In addition, through strength we will get our muscles to support the load of more demanding workouts.

One of the most common cases, I have experienced it firsthand, is knee pain. If we strengthen our quadriceps muscles, our knee will be prepared to receive the impacts with less resentment.

Let's design goals

At the end of this post, I would like you to reflect on your goals. They are our engine of the day, of tomorrow, in short, goals give us the energy of life. In the same way that with the chimes of January 1st we make new resolutions, athletes do the same for these dates. So I encourage you to design a sports plan that responds to your intentions. Think about the illusion to achieve, this will be our long-term goal. Along this path we will set small objectives that will keep our illusion engine running. These "small objectives" are those that we will apply to our day to day. For example, pushing ourselves harder in the last few minutes of training, increasing one or two sets or incorporating a new exercise from which we will get an unknown benefit.

"You learn how to learn. You have to look for resources you didn't even know you had. You rediscover yourself and see that there are more worlds."

LAIA PALAU; Captain of the Spanish basketball team. World runner-up

Finishing the day satisfied thanks to our capacity for effort will benefit us emotionally to continue improving tomorrow. But our closest objectives and the great goal require medium-term resolutions.

We like to build and see that the bricks are well placed, don't we? So, we have to mark in our calendar some training "tests" or competitions that fit it.

For those who are preparing for a half marathon you could opt for 5km and 10km races and for marathon runners a good option are the "half" or mountain races. And for the more daring, a triathlon would be the ideal pre-season bet.

To the conquest

Finally, I want you to keep in mind that the desired goal, whether it is achieving a record or finishing a great challenge, is resolved in an instant. As soon as you achieve it, you will experience a flashback that will make you appreciate how interesting what has happened on your way has been. So the attitudes and the tools we choose for it will be decisive.

I have started the preseason with the Mizuno WAVE ENIGMA 4 A shoe that thanks to the WAVE technology dissipates the forces of impact so that our footprint is cushioned.

I decided to put my pre-season confidence in the benefits of this technology because I previously used the Mizuno WAVE RIDER 17 model and it gave me a fully satisfactory response. So much so that its support, lightness, shock absorption, balance and comfort has led me to continue sharing kilometers with them. In addition, Mizuno has chosen lilac for the new women's model of this shoe. A total success, since it is one of the colors chosen as a favorite by many girls and its tone is ideal for the autumn season. Although I must confess that blue is my favorite color. And I'm in luck, because Mizuno s new textile collection for this season has opted for a sky blue full of vitality. And without a doubt, black garments could not be missing in my closet. Whether they are dress or sports. The black will help us to combine all kinds of garments giving us elegance and stylizing our body.

Maybe it seems silly to you the theme of colors but emotionally feeling comfortable awakens our best moods.

I hope you enjoy building your goals.

If instead of defending the idea of what we think we are we take the risk of discovering the image of what we could become?
