There are numerous sports with which we could complement our preparation to get the bestrunning" version.

I will reveal the ones I use in this athletic phase. Swimming, elliptical and spinning are the routines that I integrate in my pre-season.

Swimming

And you may wonder why I resort to these disciplines because a planning always has an action that responds to a goal. Among the many benefits, my goal of swimming is that through its practice we develop most of the muscle groups helping us to gain strength.

In addition, it helps us to improve cardiopulmonary resistance, flexibility, the strengthening of joint tissues thus preventing possible injuries and an improvement in body posture.

Elliptical trainer

The elliptical trainer allows us to accumulate workouts without overloading our muscles as we have no impact against the ground and it is also a much less harmful practice. It is the one that most resembles running, both at the cardiovascular level and in its movement. So I recommend that you incorporate at least one session a week. The work with the elliptical is very grateful. So much so that in my case as a high performance athlete I not only use it in preseason but I combine it throughout the season.

Generally in training sessions it takes up a large part of the minutes. Although in more specific periods I do fewer sessions as they take priority specific workouts.

Spinning

On the other hand, spinning classes give me an extra dose of endurance and lower body strength in a fun way. Thanks to the aerobic exercise we also train the heart, the most important muscle. It gets bigger, stronger and loses some of the fat that covers it. So each beat becomes more powerful and helps us to move more blood to the rest of the body. With the change of intensities we work the heart rate and breathing, which will help us to improve our cardiovascular system and thus become more efficient when running, saving our fatigue.

Unlike swimming and elliptical, spinning is an activity that I do occasionally at this time, specifically for one or two months maximum.
