ASICS wanted to pay tribute to athletes who, despite their importance in marathons and half marathons, almost always go unnoticed. They are the pacemarkers.

What are Pacemarkers?

Pacemarkers are in charge of running the race in a specific time and accompanying groups that have the objective of finishing it in that time. They carry on them the time with which they expect to finish, so that the popular runners can follow their pace in search of their goals at the finish line.

Unlike a hare, which accompanies the athletes destined to achieve the best times during a section of the race, the pacemarkers run from start to finish.

A total of 32 runners will be pacemakers on March 16 in Barcelona. They were presented with the ASICS equipment with which they will take part in this year's race.

Presentation ASICS Muscle Support

The new compression textile ASICS Muscle Support is the great technological innovation with which the brand wanted to help them in their important and almost always anonymous work.

In addition to the top managers of ASICS Iberia, led by Emilio Risques, its general manager in Spain, the event featured the professional triathlete and ASICS ambassador Marcel Zamora as a protagonist.

Marcel explained his personal experience as a hare in several editions being in his case next to the first woman who hopes to complete the course. Zamora will be doing that job again in the 2014 edition of the race.

Cristian Llorens, Race Director of the Zurich Marató de Barcelona, explained to all attendees what is the profile of pacemakers and how the race organization selects them. In order to bring the figure of the pacemaker closer to the journalists who attended to cover the event, it ended with the realization of shootings at different rhythms in which they themselves accompanied the press. In addition, everyone had the opportunity to test the pace of competition of Marcel Zamora, running with the Barcelona in a real sprint of more than 200 meters.
