Next year, in 2024, the Swiss brand On will unveil the new On CloudUltra 2, a shoe that will feature intriguing new features compared to the previous version that has already been on the market for a few seasons.

The On CloudUltra 2 will be a much more dynamic and versatile trail running shoe thanks the incorporation of new materials and a lighter design focused on faster runners.

What Can We Expect From the On CloudUltra 2?

The Swiss brand On is set to release the new version of the On Cloudultra, an all-terrain shoe known for its comfort, great cushioning and protection that are retained in the new version. However, the shoe has been modernised to reach a wider range of runners.

The upper of the shoe will be constructed in two parts. The main one covers the foot for a good fit, and the second layer is a fabric that fulfills a more protective function against external elements and gives us the necessary durability to run in the mountains.

This version will be lighter than the On Cloudultra thanks to a heel area with less structure and padding and the elimination of the raised rear part that protected the Achilles heel.

This lightness in the structure of the shoe may affect performance during long-distance runs. Consequently, this new version is better suited for middle-distance running (up to a marathon) rather than longer ultra-distance races, as was possible with the first version.

The midsole of the shoe has been redesigned. On the one hand, one of the brand's most recognised technologies, the Helion technology, has been preserved, but the rest of the materials have been lightened in order to make this new version more versatile.

Regarding the outsole, the compound and design will remain largely unchanged from the first version, with only a few minor differences in the placement of the lugs along the outsole.

In short, pending official data from the brand, it seems that the On Cloudultra 2 will be quite different to its predecessor—a more versatile, lightweight, and dynamic shoe that will attract a different audience, likely resulting in revised recommendations for paces and distances.
