Going for a run in your favorite Pegasus 39 series running shoes running shoes in bad weather? The Oregon-based brand's staff caters to our running needs, releasing the exclusive Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 39 Shield so that rain won't leave you at home without going for a run.

As usual in Nike, the Shield family of products offers the added valor of including that water-repellent finish to increase protection on those days when the weather is bad, and going out to run is a real ordeal because of the rain and cold. The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 39 Shield running shoes solves that problem.

What's new in the Nike Pegasus 39 Shield?

The longest-lived and most iconic model of Nike Running acquires the best features of its original version of the Nike Pegasus 39 with two important new features:

  • Shield fabric: as mentioned above, this exclusive lining acts as a repellent against rain water.
  • Fleece fabric: a material that provides warmth for added mileage, even under adverse conditions.
  • Storm-Tread pattern: improved traction for wet terrain.

In the midsole of the Nike Pegasus 39 Shield we finddouble Zoom Air unit to ensure a softer and more efficient cushioning capacity. The React technology is in charge of offering that responsive point, resulting in lighter and more reactive footsteps.

Undoubtedly, the main novelties of these Nike Pegasus 39 Shield are located in their upper. That combination of the innovative Shield and Fleece fabrics keep your feet dry and fresh in every kilometer you run. It should also be noted that the inclusion of the Knit material reinforces that warmth offered by this running shoe for daily workouts on bad weather days.

To this end, being an all-rounder for asphalt, these Nike Pegasus 39 Shield bring with them different linings that wrap the toe area to prevent water seepage at this point of the shoe. Even the marbled lining also fulfills that mission. Also with the idea of providing more comfort, the upper area of the tongue is better insulated, and through which more warmth is achieved in the feet.

As for the outsole, the Nike Pegasus 39 Shield features the Storm-Tread pattern, which improves traction on wet terrain. Inspired by winter tires, this pattern incorporates micro-grooves and multidirectional elements that allow for better grip on the ground, while deflecting water. This provides better contact with the ground.

Ideal type of runner of the Nike Pegasus 39 Shield

Based on the original version of the legendary Nike Pegasus 39, this new version of the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 39 Shield maintains the hallmark of being a winter trainingshoe for neutral runners. Designed for intermediate and heavy weights up to 75 kilos, or even stretching up to 80 kilos.

These Nike Pegasus 39 Shield are suitable for all types of terrain, including those rural trails already laid out. As for the running paces, they vary depending on the runner's weight and running technique. But, these can be perfectly in that range of 4:30 to 5:15 min/km, and also for somewhat lower paces.

Technical specifications of the Nike Pegasus 39 Shield

Despite the visible changes, these Nike Pegasus 39 Shield keep the same geometry as the original model with a 10 mm drop. What does vary, slightly, is the weight of the model. Although its performance is still light and dynamic, all these materials included for running in bad weather make the shoe gain a few grams, but below 300 grams of weight.

If you are looking for an ideal model to run every day during this winter season that responds in different distances and at different paces, write down the Nike Pegasus 39 Shield as a strong candidate to be in your closet.

Review of Nike Pegasus 39 Shield

Running shoes or sports outfits ideal for those rainy and cold days.

Those of us who live in areas where rain and cold are usually an element present throughout the year, we put on a big smile when brands like Nike present models like the one we are going to analyze today. An asphalt running shoe with a waterproof membrane, elements that help combat cold feet and an outsole that helps prevent slipping on wet ground. I present to you the Nike Pegasus 39 Shield that also comes with many new features compared to the 38 edition and almost all for the better.

For what type of runner do we recommend the Nike Pegasus 39 Shield?

Nike

As every year Nike presents us with the arrival of winter adaptations of some of its top selling models for water, snow and cold conditions. Today we analyze the Nike Pegasus 39 Shield, a shoe that as its name suggests takes advantage of the last, geometry and midsole of the Pegasus 29 but adds materials that make it a perfect ally for running in rainy days or even snow.

The Nike Pegasus 29 Shield is oriented to training and running at easy and medium paces for runners up to 80-85 kg maximum on wet asphalt or wet tracks and trails without technical difficulty or mud.

It is a good option for those runners who usually go out to train in areas where rain is common. But it is also a more than recommendable option as an urban shoe, for walking or for your sportier outfits in the city on rainy or cold days.

Nike

What did we like most about the Nike Pegasus 39 Shield?

I would highlight 3 elements out of all the new features of this new edition.

First of all the upper. Since the first edition we tested (that Nike Pegasus 36 Shield) the changes are very significant. The first Shield versions were not completely waterproof. The Shield membrane has improved a lot and now we can find materials that repel and protect from water and snow while keeping the foot dry.

Secondly, the sole. In the 38 version we found a sole divided into two parts. An external area that incorporated the Storm-Tread technology. And another part with a layer of rubber with hardly any tread that did not grip as well in the wet as the area with Storm-Tread. Well, in this new edition we find all the areas of the outsole that contact the asphalt covered with Storm-Tread. In case you didn't know, this technology simulates the pattern and textures of the winter tires of cars. It is made of high-strength rubber that incorporates microgrooves that adhere to the ground in different directions that also help to divert water, allowing a great adherence in the race.

Nike

And the third improvement of this model is its design. It's almost a sneaker. It is elegant, functional, with a range of colors very appropriate to be able not only to go running but also to combine them with a pair of jeans or long sport pants giving you a sporty and urban look.

Possible improvements for future editions

The fit is still very good (as with the version without Shield), the Zoom cushioning is soft and with that reactive touch when you need it. Its padded tongue and mouth padding. But there is a small detail to improve. The elements with which the upper is constructed are as we said now waterproof. But the achievement of this impermeability, gives a consistency and body to the upper that makes you hear the "noise" of the materials as they wrinkle due to the flex of the foot when walking.

I know it is an element that is not too significant but it can also be annoying for some people.

Conclusion

The Nike Pegasus 39 Shield is a fantastic rainy day or wet asphalt running shoes. Also a great option for going to work or going for a walk with that urban and sporty style on greyer days. Its price is also very competitive and below the vast majority of times of its competition when using Gore-Tex. Also with the guarantee of a model that has been on the market for 39 years and has become the best-selling Nike running shoe in history. In other words, you won't go wrong.
