HOKA Gaviota

In the past we have seen how HOKA has focused mainly on Running shoes in the neutral category offering some stability to the foot for mild pronators, however, this year they give a new twist to their catalog with the addition of the HOKA One One Gaviota, an edition in which the firm begins to implement its high cushioning and lightness, to a support shoe for pronation.

Delivering a level of support unlike any other edition of HOKA's shoes before, the Gaviota allows runners excellent pronation control and a unique cushioning system without all the added weight that comes with traditional pronation control shoes on the market, offering runners with severe pronation a unique running experience that removes all the restrictions of common support shoes.

Pronation control

This is the main feature of the Gaviota and is achieved through the incorporation of J-Frame technology. To make up this support, Hoka has chosen a combination of dual density EVA rubber and rubber, a proprietary material the firm has named RMAT; in conjunction with some extensions in the frame that come as their main innovation.

The company had already implemented a support frame in other editions of its shoes which was complemented by an EVA rubber on which the foot settled, forming a structure that maintained some pronation control.

However, to improve support in the HOKA One One Gaviota, this framework has been improved with the use of this firmer material, which is used in the midfoot area and extends towards the front of the shoe, reinforced with firmer supports of the same material that are integrated into the lateral area of the heel.

The use of this technology replaces traditional EVA rubber in the cushioning and makes the midsole a little stiffer than traditional, although it remains considerably less rigid than other control shoes available on the market.

Shoe design

A detail that the firm has wanted to give this shoe is the possibility of adapting to different types of feet without being restrictive, so the design of the upper maintains similar characteristics to those that can be seen in the Clifton 3, in terms of the use of materials.

With a 3D print on the entire front area of the shoe and the sides in synthetic material, the HOKA One One Gaviota has a very good structure that allows to keep the foot in position, without the excessive use of synthetic layers that end up adding weight and decreasing functionality. The synthetic layer in the lateral area joins the lacing system to achieve a perfect fit of the shoe.

Outsole

The outsole features a flat geometric pattern that offers good traction while facilitating flexibility in foot movements. A groove extends throughout the midsole from the heel to the forefoot, which also helps to control the foot's inward motion.

The HOKA One One Gaviota arrives to position itself as one of the lightest pronation control shoes currently on the market and with a less restrictive cushioning system than other editions in the same category; even runners without many pronation issues will enjoy the comfort and support offered by HOKA's new creation.
