ASICS Magic Speed 3

Member of the RUNNEA TEAM since this year, I had the opportunity to test the ASICS Magicspeed 3, an awesome running shoe with carbon plate.

The result of this test will be the Monaco km 5, aiming to achieve a personal record in this short distance which is quite unusual for me.

First impressions of these ASICS shoes

Often, the first thing I look at is the look of a shoe.

From an aesthetic standpoint, it's a shoe that, in my opinion, is attractively designed with its streamlined shape towards the front. You can sense that it is made to perform at its best.

As for the color of my model, the combination of white and red makes it aggressive and highlights the ASICS logo.

As for the finishes and stitching, I have nothing to say, they are discreet and cared for.

Training with the ASICS Magic Speed 3

To begin with, who says carbon plate says for me that we are in front of a nervous and dynamic shoe, made to break stopwatches. After testing them, I can say that they are ideal for tempo workouts due to their comfort and lightness. And as I expected, they are really nervous and dynamic.

I was able to test them in some speed runs, short and long intervals, on asphalt and on track. I haven't tested them in competitions yet but I think they can be used up to 21 km as they lack cushioning for longer distances, in my opinion.

I was also able to test the ASICS Magic Speed 3 on light jogs to further appreciate the comfort these shoes offer. They have a dynamic rebound without neglecting good cushioning.

I find them equally precise and accurate. They adapt perfectly to the shape of the foot for greater precision of the foot on the ground.

I have also run with them on varied terrains without worrying about the sole. Having worn them in dry weather as well as rain, I found the sole grippy and quite sturdy, meaning they are built to last over time.

The upper of the shoe is openwork which is synonymous with lightness but also breathability. This offers maximum comfort for this shoe.

The tongue is super thin and pleasant. As for the lacing system, it is traditional, and it is perfect to ensure good support and stability.

What runner profile is the ASICS Magic Speed 3 aimed at?

This shoe can be used by every amateur runner up to the experienced runner. However, in order to get the most out of its capabilities, in my opinion, I think these versatile shoes are made for people with already some running experience. That is, for rather fast runners (under 4'30/km) because of their carbon plate and reactivity.

Opportunities for improvement in the ASICS Magic Speed 3

Size-wise, they fit rather small (half a size smaller than what I usually wear).

In terms of improvements, I think a little more cushioning could be beneficial and make them more competitive for marathon running.

If the tongue is thin, I find that it doesn't ideally fit the shape of the foot which can create a crease zone and discomfort.

Final conclusion about the ASICS Magic Speed 3

This is my first time with ASICS, and I must say, I am very satisfied with the product. Already several miles in and the shoe has not changed, they seem to last over time.

They feel closer to the foot than the carbon shoes I usually wear, which makes me feel more comfortable and more precise in my efforts.
