Year 2016

The DS Trainer reaches its 21st version, and once again, at the top of the mixed running shoe ladder. Suitable for both racing and training, but intended for runners with fast paces, under 4:30km/h. Aimed at runners with mild to moderate pronation, the ASICS Gel DS Trainer 21 is also available for neutral runners, with the correction component removed.

As in its predecessor model, the Gel DS Trainer 20, its hallmarks are none other than its great lightness -247 grams-, very versatile, necessary cushioning, optimal response and stability control for pronators. Thus, the result could not be other than a more efficient stride, being valid to cover distances from 5 kilometers to complete a marathon.

The DS Trainer 21 maintains the same structure as one of the most striking models, and with a large number of followers, such as the ASICS Noosa Tri 11. But, the remarkable feedback of the DS Trainer 20 with the public has resulted in this new version does not involve a radical change, and therefore has few modifications. So we can speak more of an update than a new model in the Japanese company's catalog. All its novelties are restricted to the upper, which comes without seams; and the renewed heel support.

Technologies used in the ASICS Gel DS Trainer 21

The heel has been redesigned in line with the iconic Gel Kayano 22, which includes an improved heel counter, in order to offer greater firmness and support during the stride.

The midsole technologies remain unchanged from the previous version, and the ASICS Gel DS Trainer 21 continues to use a combination of the Dynamic DuoMax system, a dual-density compound that allows for pronation control; Solyte, which ensures more durable cushioning; and the characteristic Gel system, both in the forefoot and heel.

The DuoSole system has also been incorporated into the sole, which shares the limelight with the AHAR compound, present in the areas of greatest wear, with the idea of prolonging the shoe's useful life. On the other hand, in the midfoot, the Propulsion Trusstic system guarantees a better response, but it is also capable of providing that stiff point.

Upper with very few changes

The upper of the ASICS DS Trainer 21 maintains the so-called Seamless material, with which the Japanese brand ensures that the shoe meets the needs of breathability, comfort and lightness.

This upper is still made with a single layer, but eliminating the seams, thus avoiding chafing. However, in the chapter of the thermosealing, there is a small variation of location, trying to find a better fit, without this translating into less breathability.

It also has 3M reflective elements, which improve visibility, when it is conspicuous by its absence.

Like its predecessor, the ASICS Gel DS Trainer 21 has a 10-millimeterdrop and weighs 248 grams for the men's version, while the weight is 224 grams for the women's model. In short, this is an ideal mixed shoe for runners of average weight -no more than 75 kilos-, and who are prone to putting their feet on the ground.
