The NNormal Kjerag trail running shoe is the first model launched by NNormal, a brand born from the alliance between the world-renowned mountaineer and mountain runner Kilian Jornet and the family-owned footwear company Camper. It is a high-performance mountain shoe, very versatile as it is designed to run both on the most technical trails and on the flattest trails.

NNormal Kjerag, main features

Fast and light, so present the new trail running shoes NNormal Kjerag; that with only 200 grams of weight, 197 grams in a size 7.5UK of man to be more exact, incorporates some of the most revolutionary technologies of the moment. Let's remember that the first prototype of these Kjerag was tested in competition by Jornet himself, in some of the most emblematic races that have taken place this 2022.

NNormal Kjerag, main features

NNormal Kjerag, Kilian Jornet

The NNormal Kjerag offers a great balance between stability, protection and cushioning. An exquisite combination that helps prevent muscle fatigue and blisters, while prioritizing, at all times, virtually unbeatable adaptability. "Our goal with the Kjerag era find the highest quality materials, the most advanced technologies and the most planet-friendly production processes. In other words, the best in every aspect. From there, we've tried to put it all together in an all-terrain shoe that's as good for a KV as it is for 100 miles," Kilian himself pointed out. Without further ado, let's take a closer look at the main features of this model:

The new generation EEXPURE® midsole is in direct contact with the feet through a very thin membrane. A material of great lightness and reactivity that also offers a higher level of stability. It is also important to mention that in the area of greatest pressure, there is an ultra-thin protective layer that prevents sharp stones from causing injury.

NNormal Kjerag upper

The upper area of this men's and women's trail running shoes is woven with a braid of Kevlar® and polyamide yarns, making it an exceptionally tough, durable and highly breathable shoe. The traditional lacing system ensures maximum foot support and a more personalized fit. It is worth noting that the fabric, produced in Ardèche (France), uses a dyeing process that uses 50 to 95% less water than other methods.

And we come to the most strategic area of the shoe, the outsole. The result of an exclusive collaboration between VIBRAM and NNormal, the Litebase outsole drastically reduces its overall weight (up to 30%), thanks to a 50% reduction in thickness, while retaining its perfect shape and 3.5 mm lugs.

Regardless of the complexity of the terrain, the Megagrip Vibram compound has great grip and long life. The lug pattern is made up of 50 lugs, with a fast 35 mm profile that prioritizes speed and sensitivity to the terrain. As the company itself points out, "all the lugs have between 6 and 8 angles, and are strategically placed to favor grip during propulsion, maintain control in lateral supports and retain in technical descents".

NNormal Kjerag, technical specifications

We finally put a face to the new NNormal Kjerag, a trail running shoes designed to conquer the most demanding peaks. With a light weight of 197 grams, in a size 7.5UK for men, and a 6 mm drop (a midsole of 235 mm in the rear and 175 mm in the front), it is the first shoe that NNormal launches and whose prototype has already been seen on Kilian's feet, in some of the most important competitions of the 2022 season.

Importantly, the first delivery of NNormal gear, including the Kjerag, will be available in Europe and North America in the fall of 2022.

NNormal Kjerag, maximum performance shoe that comes to stay to give a lot of war on the mountain

A morning visit to RUNNEA turned into a surprise. they had a pair of trail running shoes in store for me: the NNormal Kjerag! Yes, those shoes that everyone talks about and wonders if everything that is said about them is true. I can only say that they have amazed me and are coming to stay with me as my favorite shoe for training and competitions.

To be clear, if you decide to wear these new NNormal Kjerag trail running shoes, you should know that you will be wearing a top-performance model, designed to go from summit to summit without worrying about the type of terrain.

How are these Kjerag from NNormal, Kilian Jornet's competition shoe, designed

They weigh 197 grams (200 grams), in a size 7.5UK for men, and a drop of 6 mm, is the first shoe that launches NNormal, designed by Kilian Jornet and the family company Camper, are giving much to talk about for their good performance.

As soon as you put on these NNormal Kjerag shoes, you already notice impressive cushioning and stability, even on the most technical terrain. You can feel the terrain, but with excellent protection and rebound smoothness that I would say is perfect even at high speeds.

How are these Kjerag from NNormal, Kilian Jornet's competition shoe, designed?

Midsole area

The midsole is integrated with a new generation of Foam, the EExpure Midsole. This compound is in direct contact with the feet through a very thin membrane. As there is no inner sole, you get better propulsion and compression with less slippage and blisters. The resilience of the foam promotes greater durability in the compression of the midsole.

Upper of the NNormal Kjerag with Matryx fabric

Upper area

The upper is composed of a technical mesh called Matryx. A compound designed with a braiding of Kevlar and polyamide yarns, which makes it a super strong, durable and breathable shoe.

The traditional lacing system guarantees foot support, even on difficult terrain and long-distance ultras. There is no elastic to keep the laces in place, but it is true that they do not come undone so easily with possible snags.

This fabric is very light and easy to wash after your outings in the mountains. The dyeing process uses between 50% and 95% less water than other methods on the market, making it a more sustainable trail running shoe.

Outsole area

The outsole of this NNormal Kjerag model consists of Vibram Litebase + Megagrip . In other words, whatever the terrain you run on, it provides great grip and durability. This outsole prioritizes speed and sensitivity to the terrain with strategically placed lugs to promote grip during propulsion and maintain control in the lateral supports, but also, retain in technical descents.

For any kind of distance with an unbeatable durability.

Opportunities for improvement of the NNormal Kjerag

Opportunities for improvement in the NNormal Kjerag

We can say that these NNormal Kjerag are trail shoes that improve as you go adding kilometers with them on, in the km that we use them.

One of its biggest "buts" is in its tonality. Its white and gray colors get dirty faster than one would like, although it is true that the dirt is removed quite well.

The price, which is around 180€, may not be affordable for all mountain runners. Premium Shoe, yes, but with a very elitist price.

With which models can we compare the NNormal Kjerag?

Final conclusions of the NNormal Kjerag

NNormal Kjerag Final Conclusions

Shoe that weighs only 200 grams, but has impressive cushioning and stability. Definitely 2 plus points for this Kjerag from NNormal.

With a wider forefoot, the last adapts to hot days, but also to long distances.

This shoe adapts to any type of runner and terrain, maintaining the natural movement of the foot, which helps to avoid muscle fatigue and possible chafing.

AShoe that respects the planet, a very important point nowadays; with maximum performance, which, in my opinion, is here to stay to give a lot of war.
