New Balance FuelCell SC Trainer v2, its most outstanding innovations

The second version of the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Trainer comes to the market with significant improvements to provide an exceptional running experience. In this way, the expectations of this daily training shoe with carbon plate remain at the highest level, since it does not change its mission to ensure an unprecedented level of propulsion, while being able to increase efficiency in each step.

The main novelties of these running shoes New Balance FuelCell Supercomp Trainer v2 are focused on a redesign of its upper with a new engineered mesh, which allows the model to be lighter.

But it is also important to indicate that this new release of FuelCell Supercomp Trainer v2 has also modified its geometry with a total height of 40 millimeters, so we can say that this model of New Balance has ceased to be "illegal". This change means that the shoe now has a 6 mm drop and heel heights of 40 mm and forefoot heights of 34 mm.

On the other hand, and although it may not seem like it, there are also changes in the configuration of its midsole. On a technological level, the technologies remain the same: FuelCell and EnergyArc. In this sense, it is true that New Balance product developers have opted for a reconfiguration of the FuelCell foam. We are talking about a lighter and less dense material than the original version of the New Balance FuelCell Supercomp Trainer v1.

We analyze the New Balance FuelCell SC Trainer 2 from two different points of view

This analysis is a little different from what we have been doing in RUNNEA. We want to analyze it from two different perspectives of popular runners: Amaia Cabezudo, popular runner in 10k and half marathon distances and Gorka Cabañas, product manager of RUNNEA, with half marathon and marathon as favorite distances. A double vision that can help you better understand the possible use that you are going to be able to give to this model of the American company...

I had the opportunity to try the New Balance Supercomp Trainer v2, and I heard so much about the first version of the New Balance SuperComp Trainer and its versatility and comfort, that I was looking forward to try this second version.

Key Features

The first impression I had when I put on the Supercomp Trainer v2 is how light it felt on my feet. The breathable mesh upper keeps feet cool and comfortable throughout the run. The midsole provides responsive cushioning and I felt each step very natural. Plus, its good traction on different surfaces thanks to its durable rubber outsole.

What I liked the most

What I liked most about these shoes is their versatility. You can use them for medium tempo workouts and long distances as well as short runs. The responsive midsole allows you to accelerate when you need to without sacrificing comfort. In addition, the lightness and breathability of the shoe have given me a very light feeling.

What type of runners I recommend them for

I would recommend the New Balance Supercomp Trainer v2 to runners who are looking for a versatile shoe for different types of training and racing. If you are an intermediate to advanced runner looking for a combination of performance and comfort, this shoe is an excellent choice. Perfect for running at almost any pace but without losing comfort on the run.

What paces and distances do I recommend them for?

The shoe has adapted perfectly to my different paces and distances. From easy paced workouts to my shorter races where I demand more speed, the Supercomp Trainer v2 offers me the support and reactivity I need for every occasion. And paces between 4:00 and 5:30 min/km.

Possible points for improvement

A point of improvement is its sole, that although the traction is good on different surfaces, I have noticed that on smoother floors or wet surfaces it does not grip and can become slippery.

Amaia Cabezudo's conclusion

The New Balance Supercomp Trainer v2 is a reliable and comfortable shoe. Its versatility has allowed me to enjoy every workout and race, regardless of distance or pace. Its overall performance and responsiveness has been exceptional. If you are looking for a shoe to take your training and racing to the next level, you should definitely consider the Supercomp Trainer v2.

Review Gorka Cabañas

Hello, runners! Today I present in this double review, an asphalt shoe with carbon plate and whose first version I was also able to test: we are talking about the New Balance Fuelcell Supercomp Trainer v2. New Balance, a brand already consolidated among the greats in the world of running, brings us a proposal that promises to revolutionize our training sessions. Amaia Cabezudo has already given you her impressions. Now let's go with mine. Will it meet the expectations generated? Let's find out.

We review the New Balance FuelCell SC Trainer 2 -review

Technical details

The midsole of these shoes incorporates the acclaimed FuelCell foam that we could already test in the first version, which translates into a very good response and energy return, without sacrificing feelings of softness and comfort. This edition changes the geometry and even the height, but what does not change is its reactivity and softness to the touch. The upper, made with an advanced technical mesh, guarantees first class breathability, keeping your feet cool even on the hottest days. It also has a slightly wider last that not only provides comfort but also stability to the model. And the meticulously designed outsole offers good grip on a variety of surfaces without compromising durability.

Running feel with the New Balance Fuelcell Supercomp Trainer v2

From the first mile, the Supercomp Trainer v2 envelops you in a comfortable and responsive feel. The stride transition is smooth, and the energy it gives you back propels you forward, making each stride more efficient. It's as if the shoe becomes an extension of your foot. The good balance between the carbon plate and the Fuelcell midsole certainly helps. It's a real joy to ride in this shoe both in your daily runs and when you need to speed up the pace in more demanding sessions, but without giving up running comfortably.

We analyze the New Balance FuelCell SC Trainer 2 -review

What type of runners I recommend them for

These shoes are ideal for runners who are looking for a balance between comfort and performance and who also want to try a non-radical carbon plate shoe. Whether you're an experienced runner or someone taking their first steps in the sport, the Supercomp Trainer v2 will suit your needs, offering a great running experience.

For what paces and distances

The versatility of these shoes is one of their strengths. They are perfect for short distances and speed workouts, where their reactivity really shines. But they are also an excellent choice for longer distances, such as half marathons or even marathons, thanks to their comfort and cushioning. For paces from 4:00 m/km to slower..,

What I liked the most

We review the New Balance FuelCell SC Trainer 2 -review

Personally, I loved the combination of responsiveness, comfort and stability. It's rare to find a shoe that offers both perfectly, and New Balance has achieved it with this model. Also, the design is modern and attractive, which is always a plus.

Possible points for improvement

We review the New Balance FuelCell SC Trainer 2 -review

Despite its many virtues, there are areas where it could be improved. The sole, while offering good grip on most surfaces, can be a bit slippery in wet conditions. We live in the north and here it is common to go out on wet asphalt.

Comparison with previous models

We review the New New Balance FuelCell SC Trainer 2 -review

Compared to the previous version, the New Balance Supercomp Trainer v2 has taken a quantum leap forward. New Balance has polished the details, offering a visually more attractive shoe that is also more reactive, comfortable and stable. If you were already a fan of the previous version, I assure you that you will fall in love with this one.

Possible rivals

In the current market, the Supercomp Trainer v2 could face models like the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 or the Hoka Bondi X, both known for their comfort and performance. However, New Balance 's proposal stands out for its reactivity and innovative design.

Conclusion by Gorka Cabañas

After testing them in different conditions and distances, I can affirm that the New Balance Fuelcell Supercomp Trainer v2 have exceeded my expectations. They are a perfect combination of design, comfort and performance, and have earned a place in my regular shoes rotation. If you're looking for a shoe that will accompany you in your challenges and help you excel, I recommend you give them a try.

And with that, I conclude my review for today. I hope it has been useful and has helped you learn a little more about these shoes. As always, see you next time and let's go running!
