Year 2016

The war is on in the segment of top-of-the-range running shoes for overpronators. In fact, all current brands have their reference models in place, such as the Ultra Boost ST from adidas, the Guide 9 from Saucony, the Kayano 23 from ASICS, the Wave Inspire 13 from Mizuno, or the new GoRun Forza from Skechers Performance, among other options.

In the specific case of Nike Running, the logical bet would be to think of the Air Zoom Structure 19 -while awaiting the arrival of the new Structure 20-. However, the North American company has another more outstanding option when it comes to covering long distances both in training and in competition. And it is none other than the second version of the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey, whose most outstanding advantage is its exceptional cushioning.

Localized improvements in the upper

The evolution in the Air Zoom Odyssey 2 is rather contained, because it presents few changes with respect to its predecessor, the first version of the Odyssey. The improvements in this training shoe for overpronators are visible in the redesigned upper, although the lightweight Flymesh mesh is still used, which provides good breathability and is libre of seams.

The Flywire cable system undergoes a slight variation, they are wider and flatter, with the idea of offering a firmer, but also softer support, in a clear trend towards the design of the latest version of the iconic Nike Air Zoom Pegasus (number 33).

Continuing with the improvements in the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey 2, the heel counter has also been modified in order to provide more stability to the shoe.

Features that remain unchanged in the Odyssey 2

The aspects that remain unchanged in the Odyssey 2 are: the triple density midsole, which together with the Dynamic Support platform have the mission of minimizing the degree of pronation, increasing stability and offering more support to the foot in the impact zone.

Of course, there are also Zoom Air units in the heel and forefoot for controlled, low-profile cushioning.

The outsole continues to maintain the grofe structure with flexible grooves, the longitudinal guide on the lateral side to gain flexibility, and a more resistant compound in the areas of greater wear. The same pattern that is followed in its counterpart for our runners, the Nike Air Zoom Vomero 11

The 12-millimeterdrop is also maintained, while the weight is below the 300 barrier (298 grams) in the men's version for a size 42.5EU, and 258 grams for the women's version (size 39EU).
