Year 2015

Era only a matter of time before the American company's best-selling model, the 1080, coined the Fresh Foam name for itself. In its bid to evolve and innovate, New Balance has incorporated its exclusive Fresh Foam cushioning system into the sixth version of the 1080. With the addition of this technological advance, the New Balance 1080 v6 becomes the top-of-the-line cushioning shoe from the Boston-based company.

The new Fresh Foam 1080 v6 has little to do with its predecessors (1080 v5). As a new member of the Fresh Foam family, this shoe has been redesigned from heel to toe. The previous ABZORB® cushioning systems and N2 compound are replaced by Fresh Foam intelligent cushioning, incorporated in the midsole. As a result, this iconic New Balance model remains the benchmark training shoe for neutral and medium to heavy runners. And all this thanks to its performance in cushioning, stability, and without losing its characteristic lightness.

Most relevant new features of the NB Fresh Foam 1080 v6

With all of the above, the first major new feature of the Fresh Foam 1080 v6 that will be noticed is that the midsole is higher and the feel is firmer, a direct consequence of the large amount of this exclusive memory foam. However, this does not mean that the model has gained weight, but rather the opposite, since it is reduced to 293 grams. In addition, true to its idea of providing more effective support in each stride, New Balance continues to maintain its 8-millimeterdrop. A feature that helps reduce impact in the heel area, and favors a smoother and faster transition in the forefoot.

The upper of the sixth generation of the 1080 is not left out of the changes either. A new synthetic mesh construction has been chosen to provide greater freedom of movement in the forefoot area, while optimizing the fit of the rearfoot and instep area. In other words, the feeling is one of greater comfort and safety.

Another important change in the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 v6 is located in the outsole. The Blown Rubber system, with injected carbon, provides more grip and stability at faster paces. As in other models such as the Fresh Foam Zante or the Fresh Foam Boracay v2 Sevilla 2016, the studding, arranged in different sizes, is strategically placed in the areas where it is most needed. Two transversal flex lines are in charge of improving stability and offering a more direct contact with the ground.

The 1080 v6 is not classified as a specific model for stability control, but given the great stability offered by the Fresh Foam, it is a valid option for runners with mild pronation. And of course for neutral runners who have a lightweight, responsive training shoe in mind.
