Year 2017

To say MetaRun is synonymous with talking about the absolute reference of the new generation of Running shoes from ASICS, one of the brands that fit the largest number of popular runners. After three years of research and development, engineers at the ASICS Institute of Sport and Science in Kobe (Japan), the original version of the MetaRun saw the light of day in December 2015 with a limited delivery of 60,000 models. An exclusive sneaker needed a different treatment and distinction over the rest.

With the clear premise of continuing to be the maximum exponent of technology applied to the world of running, especially in the sneaker segment, ASICS puts on the market the second version of its super-luxury MetaRun sneaker, which is inspired by the millennial Japanese culture, and more specifically, as a tribute to the iconic city of Tokyo.

New aesthetics and meanings of its colorway.

The new ASICS MetaRun 2017 also lands as the paradigm that unites such significant sections in a running shoe as cushioning, stability and lightness, already seen in its first version. So the great novelty of the ASICS MetaRun 2017 is in its aesthetics. The designers of the Japanese brand have opted for a radical change of color, discarding the black tone of the original version, and opting for a lighter chromatic range, which marries perfectly with the origin of the Japanese brand itself. The MetaRun 2017 represents the three values of the nation of Japan: craftsmanship, design and technology.

In this sense, and in the color palette of the MetaRun 2017, each shade has its own raison d'être, and appears associated with a concept of Japanese life. Their meanings are as follows:

  • Gray color: Intended to represent the big cities of Japan.
  • White color: With a light misty touch that is identified with the Skyline of the city of Tokyo.
  • Red color: Referred to as the "Shu-red", and intended as a tribute to the "Shu-iro" tone, which in Japan is linked to good fortune.

The template of the MetaRun 2017 has as an additional detail that it tries to embody the central train station of Tokyo. All in all, this new version of ASICS Running 's most expensive shoe (250€) gives the sensation of devouring kilometers on the asphalt of the Japanese capital.

Technological innovation, the cornerstone of the MetaRun 2017

In its roadmap, and from the very first moment, the ASICS MetaRun had the course set to become one of the reference models for all runner profiles, being a running shoe optimized for long distance. In this sense, the Japanese brand has prioritized the four main attributes of any running shoe: lightness, fit, stability and cushioning.

Thus, on a technical level, the new ASICS MetaRun 2017 continue to maintain the same concepts as its predecessor model, and these are:

  • FlyteFoam

Material patented by ASICS, which allows you to enjoy the lightest and most resistant midsole with the main mission of offering maximum cushioning. In addition, thanks to its reinforced structure, based on natural fibers, this model is able to reduce the fatigue of the material itself, which translates into running more kilometers for longer.

The concept is clear: more cushioning, less weight.

  • AdaptTruss

This is an exclusive stability system that can dynamically adapt to the needs of each runner.

  • Sloped Duomax

Another new compound, integrated into the midsole, which enables an unbeatable transition, thanks to its smooth adaptation to the foot of each runner, covering their support needs.

  • Optimized Upper

A resource used solely and exclusively to ensure that the shoe provides an optimal fit. To achieve this, Kobe Institute engineers opted for a successful combination of materials, such as Jacquard Mesh and the use of an external exoskeleton. In addition to incorporating the MetaClutch, which features an inner foam that adapts to the shape of each foot.

Of course, the appearance of the ASICS MetaRun has marked the way forward, and many of these technological innovations are already being introduced in many of the iconic models of the Japanese brand. For example, the innovative ASICS DynaFlyte model or the latest versions of the legendary Kayano for overpronators feature FlyteFoam in their midsole.
