Year 2022

The ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 has burst onto the scene with significant improvements to maintain its privileged position among the best-selling running shoes on the market.

The main trademark characteristics of this top-of-the-range trainer remain the same: a running shoe that offers an exceptional level of cushioning, accompanied by a superior degree of comfort for running intermediate and long distances in each workout.

If you are already accustomed to the performance offered by this legendary ASICS series as a daily training shoe, this new evolved ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 will continue to win you over with its focus on the following:

  • Increased shock absorption capacity, with maximum soft cushioning in each stride which translates into a higher degree of protection.
  • Upgraded foam in the midsole to make the model more responsive.
  • Improved fit: The fit has been refined not just in terms of performance, but it has also undergone some subtle aesthetic improvements to provide a premium quality look.

What's new in the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24?

It goes without saying that all the improvements incorporated in the new version of the ASICS Nimbus 24 aim to make it the lightest, softest and most reactive model that the Japanese brand's product designers have created so far in one of their most successful series for road running.

The most important new feature is located in the midsole. The ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 continues to innovate with the addition of the evolved and exclusive FlyteFoam Blast + compound, which replaces the efficient FlyteFoam Propel. The clue is in the name, because "Blast +" means that the Nimbus 24 is even more reactive than the previous version. It is worth noting that FlyteFoam Blast foam is also used in top, more durable models that improve their responsiveness - such as the ASICS Novablast 2 and ASICS Dynablast 2, among others.

Like the ASICS Gel Nimbus 23, this renewed ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 still features the essential GEL system. This exclusive silicone gel base, incorporated in the heel area, helps to reinforce the enhance the high cushioning feeling, increasing shock absorption. The Trusstic technology is also included to provide the necessary support and stability for every kilometre you run. So are we talking about a running shoe for neutral-gait runners? Yes, of course, the Nimbus is the standard for neutral-gait runners, but it can also meet the needs of runners with mild or moderate overpronation - not to tread on the toes of the iconic ASICS Gel Kayano stability shoes.

The upper of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 opts for an open engineered mesh construction, which provides breathability, but also improves the support and fit of the trainer to the runner's foot, as ensured by the FluidFit system which has been added for a more personalised fit.

Let's not forget the Ortholite X insole, which reinforces both cushioning and comfort.

For its part, the outsole of the Nimbus 24 is equipped with the ASICS LITE compound, the brand's trademark. This is a very significant detail, because this material is incorporated in the most strategic points of the model, which are more exposed to abrasion. This means better traction and grip, as well as a longer lifespan. In addition, as it is made from recycled materials, so the trainer is now more sustainable.

Technical specifications of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24

Compared to the ASICS Gel Nimbus 23, the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 is a lighter option, weighing 309 grams in the men's version (265 grams in the women's version). It is also important to point out that there are no significant changes in the shape of the shoe. The heel and forefoot heights are the same, resulting in a standard 10-millimetre drop.

In addition, ASICS point to a changing trend, because the new Nimbus 24 model has arrived on the market in a wide range of colours for the runner to not only run in style, but also with the best performance and reliability.

But if there is something that stands out about the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24, it is that it is a very reliable and durable running shoe for practically any type of runner. Especially for those who are looking for a model with maximum cushioning and comfort to cover large volumes of kilometres in their weekly training sessions.

ASICS Gel Nimbus 24, when you prioritize comfort above all else

The ASICS Nimbus 24 are one of the brand's best-selling running shoes, and no wonder! In the following I'll detail my experience with these top of the range shoes after several weeks of analysis; what a great way to debut as a RUNNEA tester!

What kind of runners are the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 for?

Initially, the Nimbus 24 was designed for medium to heavy runners who are looking for a reliable shoe for their daily workouts.

At first, my profile does not fit these characteristics since I am a runner of medium-low weight. However, because I have a high arch, the configuration of the midsole complements that space perfectly.

Even if you have a tendency to pronate, these Nimbus 24s can adjust to your workouts and maximize their performance by ensuring the stability you need on the run.

In terms of paces, these shoes are ideal for a medium-low running speed, more or less low. Thus, the ideal pace to take advantage of this model, and enjoy all its benefits, is 5:30min/km or higher.

Optimized for long distances, this model performs perfectly (in my opinion) in 10k runs. The inclusion of FlyteFoam Blast + foam in the midsole area greatly increases their comfort on asphalt.

What we liked most about the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24

If there is one thing that characterizes this top of the range shoe from the Japanese company, it is its great cushioning and excellent reactivity on asphalt.

Without a doubt, what I liked most about the Nimbus 24 was the feeling of comfort and cushioning as soon as I put them on.

I would also highlight their breathability and perfect fit. The tongue area, made with sustainable materials (a real plus), facilitates the mobility of the foot during the run.

Finally, their aesthetics make them a perfect model to combine with sporty outfits and thus introduce them into long walks.

Improvement opportunities for the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24

I loved the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24. It's the truth. If I had to decide on areas for improvement, I would prioritize their stability and the fit of their tongue.

After several kilometers of use, I find the model a bit unstable, maybe due to the large drop (10mm). It should be added that, after several injuries resulting from other sports, my ankle tends to suffer certain oscillations during running; that's why I highly prioritize the stability of the model.

Also, taking into account that my profile can be described as a runner of medium-low weight , I find them somewhat heavy; as a result, after several kilometers, I end up dragging my feet. Of course, the target audience for this model, the athlete of medium-high build, would fit its performance better.

Finally, and despite being one of the strong points of the Nimbus 24, the minimalist construction of the tongue generates a feeling of insecurity and lack of durability when it comes to adjusting the model. Although the main objective of its construction was weight reduction, it seems to me that greater cushioning in that area could optimize the runner's experience.

Which models can we compare them with?

Final Conclusions

If you prioritize comfort in your daily training sessions while running at easy paces, the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 can become your best friend. Designed for runners of medium-high build with neutral or even pronation tendencies, I don't think these top-of-the-line shoes are within the budget of beginner runners.

However, if you are looking for fit and reactivity in long distances, this latest model from one of the most long-lived sagas from the Japanese company will leave you satisfied, more than guaranteed!
