ASICS Running incorporates a minimal amount of changes for the ninth release of the Gel Impression, so the bet is still to maintain the features that have made this running shoe stand out, and oriented to neutral runners. The main change is located in the upper design, which has also reduced the weight of the model, in addition to improving its performance in lightness and breathability.

The entire construction of the shoe maintains the same premise of the previous version. This is to provide a minimalist design, with fewer synthetic layers but keeping them in strategic places, which improves the experience, without increasing the weight.

Upper features

As mentioned, the upper of these shoes is where the main changes are concentrated. For this edition, a mesh with larger holes is incorporated, and which is not only in the toe section, but extends to the sides to provide a more ventilated environment for the runner's feet.

The use of overlays is kept to a minimum; the main place where we will see them is on the sides where the ASICS logo is formed. The elimination of excessive overlays allows the upper more flexibility, and allows it to better adapt to the shape of the foot: But at the same time they are retained in the necessary places to maintain structure and provide better support.

The heel area also incorporates a small change with a slightly larger protector that helps to better position the foot inside the shoe and prevent slippage. Comfort and a snug-fitting closure are maintained thanks to the collar and tongue with substantial padding. All this is complemented by an internal insole made of EVA rubber to make the foot feel comfortable while running.

Midsole

To provide better shock absorption, the ASICS Gel Impression 9 has incorporated Rearfoot Gel Cushioning System technology. This silicone-based material, designed exclusively by ASICS, is one of the best on the market today for providing anadequate level of shock absorption and distribution of the energy produced when the feet impact the ground.

A traditional EVA rubber extends the entire length of the midsole, and some flex grooves have been incorporated for improved responsiveness, adapting to the natural movements of the foot during running. This results in a more comfortable and fluid stride.

The Trusstic system is also found in the ASICS Gel Impression 9, and consists of a graft that gives a better structure to the midsole and helps facilitate the transition from the heel to the toe area.

Outsole

ASICS' signature AHAR rubber is used for the outsole. The outsole design features a good amount of flex grooves that allow for better foot mobility. The heel has been separated, thus isolating the energy provoked during impact, favoring cushioning. An additional graft in the midfoot area maintains the torsion of the foot in a more natural way and provides greater stability.

With these slight changes ASICS has incorporated into the Gel Impression 9, the result is a shoe that is more comfortable, softer and lighter on the foot, while the cushioning, support and flexibility features seen in the predecessor edition are retained for an efficient and versatile shoe.
