Vans sneakers have gone from being the favorite model of skaters and surfers to also being the most seen street style sneaker on the streets.

The simplicity of these sneakers has managed to become an icon of international fashion due to its comfort, its resistance to wear and above all its ease to combine it with any type of clothing and style.

The Side Stripe

The Old Skool was launched in the 1970s and became unmistakable thanks to its classic white side stripe in the shape of a wave and its brand logo, inspired by the surname of the brand' s founder Paul Van Doren. Paul always carried a pencil and a sketchbook to make his sketches, and by pure chance one day he was trying to create a distinctive logo for his company's sneakers. That's how the Side Stripe came out, which he showed to a shoemaker who gave him the go-ahead.

From the Old Skool model was born years later a very similar model, the Vans Ward, which together with this one completes the range of low sneakers in suede and canvas with laces of the Californian brand.

Both are low-profile Sneakers made of suede and canvas, with laces made with canvas lining and resistant leather and reinforced toe to offer greater durability. On the other hand, the sole has been designed in original rubber fiber and padded collar, which provides optimum support and flexibility.

Looking at this photo... How similar would you say the Vans Ward and the Old Skool are? Can you identify the differences between these two models? We can tell you that most of their differences are in the stitching design, but let's analyze them part by part.

- Lateral side

If we start analyzing the side, the most characteristic and visible part, we will see that both keep the Side Stripe in the same place, but there are three small details that make these two models stand out in some way: The Old Skool has a seam under the Stripe, while the Ward has it on the upper back. On the other hand, although the difference is minimal, you can see that the stitching stripe that separates the toe from the side, in the Old Skool is straighter than in the Ward, which is slightly inclined inwards.

- Front

This is the part that changes the most and the easiest to see the differences between the two models. The most characteristic detail? Of course the tongue, which in the Ward we can appreciate the white label with the black logo of the brand, which the Old Skool lacks, presenting a more minimalist and simple style.

Another detail that can be seen in the Ward and that does not have the Old Skool is the part where the laces begin, as this has added a seam in the form of reverse triangle.

- Rear part

This is the part where it is most noticeable that the Ward s upper is a little higher than that of the Old Skool. They have also introduced a vertical seam in the Old Skool to give the feeling of narrower, while the Ward, despite also having two seams, are designed with more separation and gives the feeling of having a slightly wider upper.

- Outsole

The vulcanized "waffle" type base, which provides a non-slip grip and greater firmness, is made of rubber and in both models has the same design, and you may wonder... and how do they differ? simply in the color, the Ward sole being darker than the old Skool.

- Interior

It is a detail that goes completely unnoticed once you put them on, but that you will see once you have either of the two in your hand for the first time. If it has a white interior? It's the Old Skool, and if it has black? It's the Vans Ward.

With this description by parts you are already a professional differentiating both Vans models, but now we would like to ask you a question... Which of the two models would you choose?
