The Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX is a beast on the trails. This high-performance hiking shoe has the snug fit of a trail training shoe, and performs like one too.
With superior traction, the Salomon X Ultra 2 Goretex goes over any terrain with ease. Its waterproofing is top notch with an above average level of moisture resistance, and being able to repel water to a greater extent. Adding that these X Ultra 2 from the French brand may be a stiffer model than many others, but it is still comfortable after many miles on trails.
The upper consists of polyurethane-coated leather and synthetic textiles. Added to this is a waterproof breathable Gore-Tex Performance Comfort membrane.
The X Ultra 2 GTX fits comfortably, especially on the sides. Foot protection is excellent with this model of shoe. The toes are covered with thick rubber, ideal for stepping on loose rock, and also in snow. The leather section of the upper provides additional protection on the sides. There is not a lot of room in the toe box, making it somewhat less roomy than other models.
The shoes incorporate a Quicklace system. The Kevlar laces slide easily through the four eyelets, and which are easy to adjust to taste. For an optimal fit. The upper tongue has a mesh pocket for storing excess laces.
Overall, the upper breathes well, preventing our feet from getting wet under high activity.
The midsole is composed of injected EVA rubber on top of an advanced chassis and molded base. The perforated Ortholite sockliner promotes underfoot air circulation and is also comfortable. They stay cool in warm weather, but like most waterproof shoes, not the ideal candidate for hot day hikes.
The outsole is made of non-marking ContraGrip rubber. The hard sole of this Salomon model offers great lateral stability, aided by the molded base between the midsole and outsole. The X Ultra 2 GTX is an absolute beast when it comes to traction on various surfaces.
It features many lugs of good depth, resulting in multi-directional grip on a variety of surfaces. Mud and wet rocks present no problem and you'll be able to climb uphill in the snow, on more challenging terrain with loose rock you'll get around with minimal slippage.
A larger brake lug is located on the back of the outsole. This feature is useful when moving downhill on loose and slippery terrain, as it resists heel slippage. Because of these features you will be safe wearingthe Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX, regardless of the pace at which you move.
From hiking with your pet to traversing slopes or tricky terrain, this shoe will be ready to take you on a wide range of activities. It's comfortable enough to wear on flat, smooth trails and aggressive enough to tackle the conditions you might encounter on steep trails. With ample support, great stability and torsion, the Salomon Ultra 2 GTX is ideal for light or more technical training. If you like to move fast and light, these shoes will be a great ally.
The large rubber toe cap that protects the toes prevents wear on the leather and synthetic upper. In all areas with high flex points (places of frequent wear), reinforcements have been made with double stitching. The dense rubber on the outsole also contributes to the shoe's long life.
