The Salming Speed 5, the fifth edition of this series from Salming, which as its name suggests, is designed for speed, is presented as a very light, stable, ventilated shoe with a very good surface feel.

The Swedish firm has had great success since its recent incursion into the market thanks to its philosophy in which the design of its shoes is focused on providing a correct shape and posture during the race.

In the case of the Speed 5, we find a low-profile shoe but at the same time will offer very good cushioning, to promote speed without sacrificing protection.

Upper design

The upper of this shoe incorporates bold colors, and the construction is virtually seamless to ensure comfort and adaptability to the foot, giving such a soft feel that the shoe could be worn without socks. The upper construction uses three layers of material to increase durability.

As is customary with Salming, the lowest layer of material corresponds to a highly breathable mesh, which is also responsible for providing that comfortable feel to the foot that we have mentioned.

Following this layer is the Exo Skeleton technology, a layer of more structured materials that helps stabilize the foot during lateral movements. According to the company, the design of this technology also helps runners eliminate pressure on the metatarsophalangeal joints for a more comfortable run.

Finally, in the outermost layer of the upper there is another mesh that covers practically the entire shoe and which, due to its characteristics, hugs the foot properly to add support, but also provides greater durability and ventilation.

Midsole

As for the cushioning of these shoes, the midsole is cushioned enough to provide comfort, but is also lightweight to maintain ground feel. The midsole uses a compound called RunLite which consists of a highly abrasion resistant injected EVA rubber, which provides very good cushioning, with a light weight.

To add support to this midsole, the Salming Speed 3 has some reinforcements placed in the forefoot and heel, which will be of great benefit if running on surfaces with loose material. The cushioning works very efficiently on asphalt, on trails or on gravel, but always keep in mind the type of surface you will be running on, as the shoes will be uncomfortable on technical terrain.

Outsole

The soles are designed following a Salming principle in which the first 60% of the sole is made of a rubber that promotes traction and stability (from heel to midfoot), while the remaining 40% corresponds to a design that focuses on flexibility.

One point to take into account with these shoes is that they feature a low drop (5mm), so if you have only used high drop shoes, the transition to these may take some time to get used to, as we will have to change our landing technique from heel to midfoot landing to create less pressure on the calves.

The Salming Speed 5 shoes are an edition with which the firm contemplates to continue gaining position among runners, with quality materials and technologies designed in the best benefits for our feet, they will be an excellent choice to move to fast races.
