Year 2016

Yes, we are talking about a first edition, and it is striking that one of the identifying features of the Mizuno Wave Catalyst is its great reliability, but this new model of the Japanese brand has a number of new solutions that place it in the segment of mixed shoes suitable for almost any challenge that lies ahead.

The Mizuno Wave Catalyst continues to rely on the great performance provided by its U4ic midsole, already present in other renowned models such as the Mizuno Wave Rider 19, the Mizuno Wave Prophecy 4 and Mizuno Wave Enigma 5, among others. To which we must add its expanded rubber outsole, so this combination results in: softness in the tread and great cushioning.

Regarding its upper, the Catalyst has a very breathable and consistent mesh, built in different layers, which provide optimal fit, comfort and durability.

New solutions to increase performance

The first solution of the Catalyst is in the improved version of the Wave platform, which instead of using the characteristic Pbax has included the Pbax RNew. This is a stronger, lighter and more environmentally friendly material. This Pbax RNew reinforces the feeling that the Wave Catalyst is a very well cushioned model, ideal for medium weight runners.

The other great solution provided by the Mizuno Wave Catalyst is its construction, based on the Soft First Touch system, which incorporates several notches on the lateral part of the heel, and these contribute to soften the impact of the foot on the ground.

In addition, in the forefoot area of the outsole, the Catalyst also brings with it flexion cuts that offer that extra stability for runners with mild pronation.

All in all, the Mizuno Wave Catalyst is designed for runners with neutral footprint and slight pronation, weighing no more than 80 kilos, and covering a kilometer in over 4 minutes. In addition to being used for training at fast paces, the Wave Catalyst also performs well in competitions such as a half marathon.

In the technical characteristics, the Wave Catalyst have a 10-millimeterdrop, an approximate weight of 260 grams in the model for male runners, and 220 grams for the women's version. Final verdict: Versatile shoes for running at fast paces both in training and competition.
