ASICS Fuji Lite 3: lightness and speed in the mountains

The shoe that we are going to review next has surprised me very pleasantly after putting a lot of miles on the mountain with them. This is the ASICS Fuji Lite 3, a very light trail running shoes with which to face the fastest outings on medium difficulty terrain.

Considering the low drop of these ASICS Fuji Lite 3, 4mm to be more precise, it is important to have a good running technique and/or a previous conditioning of the musculature to get the most out of them. Perfect for those who, like me, want to run close to the ground and prioritize lightness when choosing one model or another.

A shoe with which to go well glued to the ground and reach fast speeds on medium difficulty terrain.

What is the profile of trail runner that these ASICS Fuji Lite 3 are aimed at?

These Fuji Lite 3 from ASICS Running have been optimized for runners of average weight who are looking to enjoy a good dose of lightness and speed in their short and medium distance outings over terrain of medium technical difficulty. It is worth remembering once again that, due to its low profile, 4 mm drop, this model will be rather intended for runners with some experience in the world of trail running.

All this in combination with its reduced weight, just 220 grams in the women's version and approximately 260 grams in the men's version, means that the runner profile that will be most able to squeeze the benefits of this model are runners of light and medium weight.

What did I like most about the ASICS Fuji Lite 3?

It's a model that reminded me a lot of another of my great favorites for mountain running; the Nike Air Zoom Terra Kiger 8. They are two models that we can squeeze them at lively paces and that, in addition, allow us to go well glued to the pitch.

Undoubtedly, what I like most about this model is its exquisite combination of lightness and reactivity. Its midsole with FlyteFoam technology offers a dynamic and reactive cushioning with which you can set the pace of your runs. Also, the lightness of this model makes it easy to lift the foot and transitions are much faster and smoother.

Aesthetically it is a shoe that I really like. A shoe whose design is far removed from the "robust" models that dominate the trail segment, and we see a line that is closer to running shoes. An eye-catching upper, with racer aesthetics that, in addition, at least 50% recycled materials have been used in its manufacture. A point in favor of the Japanese company and the main difference with respect to its predecessor, the Fuji Lite 2.

Another aspect that I consider noteworthy is the V-shaped tread pattern present in this model. The ASICSGrip outsole incorporates a lugged outsole that allows excellent grip both uphill and downhill. Of course, it will limit its use to medium-difficulty terrain.

Opportunities for improvement in the ASICS Fuji Lite 3

In the vast majority of the reviews I've done, when we get to the improvement section, I always tend to appeal to lightness as a negative point; usually, they tend to be rather robust models. Well, on this occasion, as a result of that lightness, I do consider that the protection offered by this model may be somewhat scarce and more as the terrain becomes more complicated.

We see certain elements in the toe area that can protect us from a possible impact of stones, but I do not consider that it is enough.

With what kind of trail shoes can we compare the ASICS Fuji Lite 3?

Final Conclusions of the ASICS Fuji Lite 3

This is a perfect model for runners of medium, medium-light weight, who are looking for speed in their races and/or short and medium distance training in the mountains. Its low profile and lightness will allow you to push yourself through medium-difficulty terrain, close to the ground.
