1 / 3The new Brooks are here! The Brooks Glycerin 22 arrives to establish itself as the absolute queen of comfort and cushioning in asphalt running. Designed for long distances, as in previous editions of this iconic saga, these shoes provide a smooth and fluid running experience, thanks to their DNA Tuned midsole.
In addition to their exceptional technical performance, these running shoes stand out for their commitment to sustainability. With a high percentage of recycled materials in the upper, the Glycerin 22 combine responsible design and high-end functionality. Overall, a model designed for runners looking for maximum comfort in their training and races, offering an impeccable fit and stable transitions throughout the race.
Main characteristics and new features of the Brooks Glycerin 22
The great innovation of the Glycerin 22 lies in their DNA Tuned midsole. This technology takes advantage of infused nitrogen to adapt the cushioning to the different needs of runners. The larger cells located in the heel are optimized to absorb impacts during landings, providing a soft feel that protects the joints. On the other hand, the smaller cells in the forefoot offer exceptional energy return, ensuring smooth and powerful take-offs with every step.
The upper design is based on a breathable and flexible mesh, made from more than 60 recycled materials. This improves both ventilation and reduces environmental impact, maintaining a sustainable approach without compromising performance. Overall, the new Brooks running shoes are an ideal model for those looking for the perfect combination of advanced technology, comfort and environmental responsibility.
Brief comparison of Brooks Glycerin 22 vs Brooks Glycerin 21
As we told you from RUNNEA, these new Glycerin 22 from Brooks Running come on strong. It is true that the line is rather continuist, because it maintains its essence, but with some interesting improvements. The first thing you will notice is that the price remains at 180€, which is good news for your pocket. As for the weight, it remains practically the same as its predecessor, with 280 grams for men's running shoes and 270 grams for the women's running shoes version. However, the height of its geometry has increased 2 millimeters, now reaching 28-38mm, which will give you a more cushioned feel.
It is important to note that the new midsole configuration with the DNA Tuned foam replaces the DNA Loft v3 from the Brooks Glycerin 21 This new technology promises a unique combination of softness and responsiveness, with small cells for propulsion and large cells for a soft landing. In addition, the model features a more cushioned and refined collar, which promotes an even more comfortable fit around the ankle.
Finally, the Glycerin 22 maintains the 10-millimeter drop, but incorporates the new RoadTrack composite outsole, first released by Brooks in 2024. This innovation improves durability and grip on different surfaces. Of course, and as we are accustomed to from the American brand from Seattle, it also presents a wide range of fun colors to put a lot of style in each of your runs.
The Brooks Glycerin 22 seems to be a subtle but significant evolution of its predecessor, offering more cushioning and comfort without sacrificing performance. Something very important for their large legion of followers.
Ideal runner profile of the Brooks Glycerin 22
The Brooks Glycerin 22 is designed for neutral runners who prioritize comfort and support over long distances. They are especially suited for those looking for a smooth, effortless running experience with a focus on smooth transitions and consistent cushioning. Shoes intended for training on asphalt and road, where the even terrain allows you to make the most of their optimized cushioning.
They are ideal for runners who enjoy long runs or are looking for a reliable shoe for daily training sessions. Thanks to the innovative midsole and the comfortable fit of the upper, the Glycerin 22 provide a stable and pleasant running experience, even on the most intense days.
Brooks Glycerin 22 technical specifications
In terms of technical details, the DNA Tuned midsole is the technological heart of this shoe, offering adaptive and optimized cushioning for each phase of the stride. The 10 mm drop provides a perfect balance between support and dynamism, while the outsole is designed to maximize ground contact, improving stability and transitions.
With a balanced weight, the Glycerin 22 is a men's and women's running shoe that is equally lightweight and comfortable, without sacrificing the protection needed to reduce joint impact. The upper construction, based on recycled materials, reinforces Brooks' commitment to sustainability, while ensuring a secure fit and excellent ventilation.

Brooks Glycerin 22, top recommendation for a comfortable, reliable and safe running experience
The Brooks Glycerin 22 came to my feet at a complicated time in my life as an athlete. But I think we all went through it. I was in full preparation for the Seville marathon, but not in the best physical condition. My fitness was poor, I was overweight and, if that wasn't enough, a calf injury had me very limited in my training.
However, I decided to train differently and the Glycerin 22 would help me in my process of returning to physical activity to get back to running with confidence and security.
For me, the Brooks Glycerin has always been a reference model in the category of running shoes with cushioning and comfort. I have tested several previous versions and, in fact, I spent almost all of 2023 running with them, which allowed me to complete the 100 km of road in Millau. One of the most demanding and beautiful races I have ever faced.
With this track record, my expectations for the 22nd version of the Brooks Glycerin were quite high. I expected it to keep all the qualities that had conquered me in previous versions, but with possible improvements that enhance its performance.
Cushioning technology in the Brooks Glycerin 22
One of the highlights of the Brooks Glycerin 22 is the evolution of its cushioning technology. In this new version, Brooks has opted to replace the traditional DNA LOFT v3 technology with the innovative DNA Tuned. This change has a direct impact on the running feel. Both technologies employ nitrogen infused foam, DNA LOFT v3 focuses on providing soft, balanced cushioning, while DNA Tuned tweaks the foam structure to offer a more personalized experience, with an emphasis on shock absorption in the heel and increased reactivity in the forefoot.
It may sound a bit professorial in running, I'll try to explain it better. Like the DNA LOFT v3, DNA Tuned uses nitrogen infused foam, but it is designed with different sized cells: larger in the heel for more shock absorption and smaller in the forefoot. This allows for better comfort and above all a more agile response.
Visually, the midsole presents an interesting configuration. You can notice a layer of yellow foam encapsulated within a translucent protection, which allows you to intuit how Brooks Running has worked on the distribution of materials to improve performance. This new foam not only contributes to improved comfort, but also ensures a balanced and well-cushioned ride. The combination of these elements results in a shoe that provides an extremely comfortable running experience, ideal for long distances and high volume training.
Brooks Glycerin 22 vs Brooks Glycerin 21
Comparing the Brooks Glycerin 22 to its predecessors, especially the Brooks Glycerin 20 and Brooks Glycerin 21 versions, several key performance-enhancing differences can be noticed. The most notable is the change in midsole technology that I just told you about.
But the outsole has also been redesigned. It now features a different arrangement of wear elements, which again optimizes cushioning. Materials have been removed in certain areas to lighten the shoe, although weight is one area where I think Brooks would have room for improvement. Transitions in each stride are more natural and fluid.
In addition, the upper has been completely revamped. It is much more breathable, has no seams and adapts better to the foot, avoiding possible discomfort or chafing on long runs.
As an extra, reflective elements have been added to improve visibility in low light conditions, something very useful for those who train at night.
What I liked best about the Brooks Glycerin 22
Without a doubt, there are many positive aspects to this new version of the Glycerin. Comfort and stability continue to be its strong points, making it an excellent choice for runners looking for a shoe that allows them to rack up miles without worrying about joint impact. Cushioning has been significantly improved thanks to the addition of DNA Tuned, which provides a soft feel without sacrificing energy return.
The upper also deserves a special mention. It is highly breathable, fits the foot well and offers excellent comfort even during prolonged training sessions. In addition, the incorporation of reflective elements is a detail that I really appreciated, as it provides extra safety in night workouts or with low visibility. Finally, the heel and tongue straps make the shoe fitting process much easier, a small detail that makes a difference in the day to day.
Possible points of improvement for the Brooks Glycerin 22
Despite its many advantages, there are some details that could be improved in future versions. The tongue, for example, is not attached to the sides, which can cause it to shift during a run and affect the overall fit. If Brooks fixes this minor inconvenience in future versions, the wearing experience would be even more satisfying.
Another area that could use improvement is the transition in the midfoot area. Although the stability is excellent, some runners might find the structure in this area too firm, which could make the transition in the footstrike not as smooth as in other models.
Finally, although the weight has increased, almost 50 grams to beat the 300 gram mark in a size 9.5. For a comfort and cushioning shoe it is not the heaviest, but this weight change is substantial. I understand it is due to the new midsole compound. And in the end this extra weight is offset by the shoes improved responsiveness.

Brooks Glycerin 22, my top recommendation, if your running profile is....
I know I'm not objective, but I tell it like I feel it, the Brooks Glycerin 22 is a daily training shoe that more than meets the expectations for runners who prioritize comfort, stability and cushioning in their training and long distance competitions.
It is an ideal choice for those looking for a smooth and safe running experience without sacrificing durability and protection.
As a member of the RUNNEA Team, it is my top recommendation, and I assure you that it will be a sure hit.
